’90210’ meets romantic comedy

We can understand how this might have seemed like a good idea at some mineral-water-and latte-fueled casting meeting, but we can’t understand why it survived the night: Actor Luke Perry is headed to the London stage for the live theater version of Rob Reiner’s sappy 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally . . .

This is according to the Hollywood Reporter, which says Perry will play the Billy Crystal role as the schlub who lost then won the girl. She’ll be played by Alyson Hannigan. Hannigan, who has survived TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and two installments of American Pie, will play the role made famous by America’s sweetheart, Meg Ryan.

Previews start Feb. 10, followed by a Feb. 20 opening at the Theater Royal, and it’s scheduled for a 16-week run.
