From Colba.net Buffy The Vampire SlayerAlyson Hannigan - Colba.net 1999 InterviewFriday 21 May 2004, by Webmaster Have you ever thought of becoming an actress when you was a little kid? No, really not. When I was at the primary school I was always freaked out when I had to go to the black board. I never arrived there. I stuttered the whole time and it always ended with a bad mark. The cameras attracted me, but I never felt able to be an actress. One day, my parents submitted me to take part in a casting for an advertisement. I took part in it immediately, because there was no text. I went there in my cords! (laughs) Later I took part in some other advertising roles. I took it as a pastime, a hobby, which I practised every Wednesday and Saturday. After a long time I beared down my shyness and then I became an actress. However, I never thought, that I was able to make a career with it. There was a rumour, that you didn’t got the role of Willow first. The first time I heard something about “Buffy” was, when my agent said to me: I have a role for you in ’Buffy the vampire slayer’. The only problem is, that the casting is already over.” (Laughs) My agent was convinced, that the role of Willow was only for me, and wanted, that I met the producers of Buffy. Unfortunately, the casting was over and an actress was chosen. But the producers of Buffy decided a few months later, while shooting the pilot, that they wanted an other actress for the role of Willow. They wanted to replace her. I was invited to an other casting and, after a few days, I was told, that the role was mine. So I was dedicated after all the others. There is really an old Buffy episode, in which you can see all present actors, but you. That’s true. I watched it a long time ago. I think, that it wasn’t on TV ever. It was something like a test. Finally they decided to shoot an other pilot. The actress, who played Willow, wasn’t similar to me. She was brownhaired and rather roundish. It seems, that your beginning wasn’t this simple. All actors and technicians were very nice to me. But I had problems with Julie Benz, who played Darla. She wasn’t nice to me. Still today I do not understand why she behaved in such a way. She is really one of the worst persons I have ever met. It was the first time that I had a such important role, I was intimidated and wanted myself to integrate in this team well. But this woman did not have the smallest indulgence. She didn’t end to make unfriendly remarks to me. I often wanted to cry. How is your relationship with Nicholas Brendon, who plays the Xander? Nicholas is really a good friend. But contrary to what I read in magazin, I didn’t fall in love with him. (laughs) He is very nice, but he is not my type. He makes a lot of fitness training and it’s visible slowly. I do not like to much muscles. I said it to him. At present there are some rumours about your love life. It seems like you have a new boyfriend. Oh, an indiscrete question...I would say, that I go out with Alexis Denishof (Wesley Wyndham-Price in the series) since the beginning of this year. We try to see us as often as possible, what isn’t simple, because he works at night and I at the day. Not so long ago, “Buffy” caused a scandal in the USA because of a homosexual relationship between Willow and an other girl. In the fourth season Willow really has a relationship with a girl named Tara. Many people were shocked. We received many complains. Honestly, I don’t understand it. " The relationship between Willow and Tara established slowly in circa ten episodes. It didn’t happened in the middle of the season to grab attention. Those, who were shocked, did not follow the fourth relay attentively. I find these reactions absurd and exorbitant. I think, that you are able to speak freely about homosexuality on TV in this age. In nearly every "Buffy" episode Willow is confronted with bloodthirsty demons. Did you have some paranormal experiences? No, but like many young teenagers I was attracted by phenomena when I was at highschool. My best friend and I were totally fallen in love with two boys, and we heard rumours about magic candles. You were told, that you only had to light them up and to speak a magic spell to make boys fall in love with you. We tried, but it didn’t work...but we didn’t indicate a exact date, on which they had to fall in love with us. Perhaps the spell will work soon... 8 Forum messages |
