The Eye network gave full-season orders to three new shows — "How I Met Your Mother," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Criminal Minds" — on Wednesday (Oct. 12) in what was a busy day for pickups. FOX gave back-nine orders to "Bones" and "The War at Home" earlier in the day. The well-reviewed "How I Met Your Mother" and "Ghost Whisperer" have helped CBS get younger in their respective time periods compared to last season, while "Criminal Minds" has given the network solid numbers against ABC’s massive hit "Lost" on Wednesday nights. "How I Met Your Mother," an ensemble comedy centered a young guy (Josh Radnor) searching for his future wife, is drawing 10.4 million viewers per week and a decent 3.7 rating among the adults 18-49 group that advertisers covet so dearly. Both figures are tops in its 8:30 p.m. Monday timeslot (among regular programming). The show has also improved CBS’ ratings in both adults 18-49 and the narrower demographic of adults 18-34 for the half-hour. FBI procedural "Criminal Minds," which opened big behind "CSI" on a Thursday night, has averaged 11.3 million viewers since settling into its 9 p.m. Wednesday home. That pales in comparison to "Lost’s" average audience of close to 23 million but beats everything else in the hour by a sizable margin. "Ghost Whisperer," meanwhile, is one of the bigger surprises of the season. Widely panned by critics, the show about a young medium (Jennifer Love Hewitt) who helps spirits make it to the afterlife has won its Friday time period every week thus far, drawing about 11 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in adults 18-49. Last year at this time, "Joan of Arcadia" was drawing only 8.6 million viewers. |
