Political thriller Syriana failed to topple Date Movie at the UK box office last weekend.

Still going strong, Adam Campbell and Alyson Hannigan’s spoof stood firm with £1.06m, whilst the thriller, featuring an Oscar-winning performance by George Clooney, opened with £0.86m.

Meanwhile, the week’s other new entries were consigned to the lower half of the chart, the next highest debut being The Weather Man in eighth place.
