Slugmag.com Amber BensonAmber Benson & Adam Busch - "Drones" Movie gets high praise at Slamdance Film FestivalTuesday 26 January 2010, by Webmaster One of the biggest crowd-pleasers of Slamdance 2010, this film uses actors and location to craft something unique in American cinema. The tone is snarky yet gentle and the story line (dealing with both “real” aliens, and the opposite sex kind) believable and fantastical—concurrently. Drones is a perfect example of how the budget constraints of small filmmakers can be creatively used to their advantage. Usual Hollywood alien movies are huge, extravagant affairs low on story and real relationships—focusing more on CGI and less on corporeal, genuinely interesting content, but Drones does the opposite. The only set, a corporate office building, hosts the entire action with minimal, almost non-existent, special effects. Any viewer who has spent time as a “worker bee” or drone in a large corporation can relate to the way the film has been shot, with cubicle walls aplenty and the ever-present power point presentations the boss of the company seems to hold daily. Without giving too much away, I’d say this will be one of the favorites of audiences and should get a deal.
