Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) April 26, 2007 — The family film "Simple Things" has just taken home the top award, the Golden Appy for Best Feature Film, at the Appalachian Film Festival in Huntington, West Virginia. Appalachian native, Executive Producer David Huff of Charlotte, North Carolina, was on hand to accept the award, "’Simple Things’ is an Appalachian story, it is a tribute to strength of talent we have in our region and the people that support us financially and emotionally, to make these stories that need to be told. We are incredibly honored to be recognized by the community and the festival."

An inspirational story about a pediatrician, his son and a community. "Simple Things" is about Dr. Evan Gibbs (Cameron Bancroft) who loses his wife to cancer and in his grief, distances himself from his 9-year-old son who also is struggling with the loss of his mother. From their familiar big city location and the father’s demanding practice and driving ambition, they are guided to a small town where simple things lead both of them to a deeper appreciation of life and for those with whom they share it.

Artfully crafted by writer and Best Director award winner, Andrew C. Erin, from the real life experiences of renowned pediatrician, Dr. Olson Huff (Recipient of North Carolina’s distinguished Order of the Long Leaf Pine and The National Child Labor Committee’s Lewis Hine Award) "Simple Things" is set in the quiet and breathtakingly beautiful mountains of North Carolina and gently provides a message to all physicians, caregivers and individuals at large that should not be ignored: the priceless value of caring.

Starring Best Actor Winner, Cameron Bancroft ("24"), Bellamy Young ("Mission Impossible 3"), Best Supporting Child Actor, Aidan Mitchell (FX’s "The Riches"), Mickey Jones ("Sling Blade"), Joshua Leonard ("Blair Witch"), Amber Benson ("Buffy"), Melissa Fitzgerald ("West Wing") and Edie McClurg ("Ferris Buehler’s Day Off"), "Simple Things" was produced by multi-award winning producer Tosca Musk of Musk Entertainment (www.muskentertainment.com) and Executive Producer David Huff of Back 40 Films (www.back40films.com).

Established in 2004 and under the helm of Festival Chairman, Sam St. Clair, the Appalachian Film Festival which features projects from the full Appalachian region (New York to the deep south) has broadened movie goers opportunities to see cutting edge films and interact with the filmmakers.
