Autodesk will publicly debut new releases of its visual effects, color grading and editing/finishing systems, and showcase the recently announced versions of its 3D animation, modeling and rendering products. Autodesk’s IBC stand #7-420 is themed “Creating the Whole Picture,” highlighting how the company’s media and entertainment products are used by digital artists throughout the entire creative process, from storyboarding to final digital content production. “Our ‘Creating the Whole Picture’ theme draws attention to the comprehensive approach that Autodesk takes with customers and the unique strengths that we bring to the market,” explained Marc Petit, Autodesk’s Media and Ent. vp. “The products we’re showing at IBC are a testament to our focus on modern production requirements, which include increasing data complexity, as well as workflow and tool optimization. Autodesk is additionally sponsoring two IBC 2006 D-Cinema sessions. On Sept. 9 from 1:00-2:30 pm CEST, Steven Poster, director of photography for the American Society of Cinematographers and president of the International Cinematographers Guild, and David Cole, colorist at Hollywood-based Laser Pacific, will present the work they completed with Lustre for SOUTHLAND TALES. Poster and Cole will discuss the difficulties faced in grading the film and how they were overcome using a combination of digital tools to achieve consistency throughout the movie making process. On Sept. 10 from 11:00 am-12:30 pm, colorist Brett Manson and visual effects supervisior Tracey Williams from The Video Lab will showcase their Lustre work for the Academy Award-winning film TSOTSI. They will discuss the various factors that led to their decision to use Lustre, and will explain how numerous challenges are overcome by using a digital medium rather than traditional color grading methods. Autodesk products that will be publicly debuted at IBC include: Autodesk Inferno, Autodesk Flame, Autodesk Flint, Autodesk Fire and Autodesk Smoke 2007 visual effects and editing software; Autodesk Lustre 2007 digital color grading system; and Autodesk Backdraft Conform 2007 and Autodesk Wiretap 2007 software applications. Autodesk will showcase the new versions of the Autodesk Flame visual effects systems, the Autodesk Smoke editing and finishing system and the Autodesk Lustre digital color grading system. The company will also show Autodesk 3ds Max 9 and Autodesk Maya 8 3D animation, modeling and rendering software, which address next-generation production challenges and feature new 64-bit capabilities. Furthermore, Autodesk and Telestream will demonstrate how Wiretap 2007 and FlipFactory can be used together to enable interoperability between Autodesk’s advanced systems and broadcast servers such as the Thomson K2 and Omneon.
