Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Fans still lamenting the end of cult TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer can start celebrating, as an eighth season of the quirky supernatural drama is on its way.

However, there’s a catch: season eight will not appear on any TV screens, instead being produced in the form of a comic book.

"I basically said, ’We could do something and for once we could make it canon. We could make it officially what happened after the end of the show’," Buffy creator Joss Whedon told TV Guide magazine about the comic book.

Whedon was careful not to reveal exactly what the comic will be about, though he did offer some hints. "It’s about the ramifications of everything that happened in season seven," he said, saying the comic will pick up several months after the finale.

All the major characters from the TV series are expected to feature in the comic, which will be published in March 2007 by Dark Horse Comics.

Whedon previously penned Frey, a comic book series that takes place in the Buffy universe centuries after the events of the series finale.
