Fan favorite (and apparently creator favorite!) writer Brian K. Vaughan recently took over writing chores on Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 at Dark Horse. Whedon himself made the title a consistent top seller in his initial run, and it looks like a new name (even though Whedon is still credited as “executive producing”) isn’t scaring away the hordes of fans that jumped on the book.

“No Whedon, no problem,” says Chris Canibano of Calliope’s Realm Comics in Naperville, Ill. “This book continues to sell record numbers for an indie book and beats out most Marvel and DC titles as well. No matter how many copies we order, we sell out as we get at least three new customers a week looking to pick up the entire run. We have sold out of our fourth reorder on issues #1 to #4 and just sold out of issue #5 and #6 today. So long as Joss Whedon’s name is on the cover, this book will continue to sell. Hopefully IDW will be smart enough to put his name prominently on the Angel series that is coming up, as that book could be huge for us as well.”
