Geeksofdoom.com Buffy : Season 9"Buffy : Season 9" Comic Book - Issue 02 - Geeksofdoom.com ReviewMonday 31 October 2011, by Webmaster Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 #2 starts off with dead bodies, credit demons (no, really), and a big dose of cold, hard reality for Buffy. Add to that some creatures of the night doing a little breaking and entering and you have the makings of a good BTVS story! Dead bodies popping up all over the place is probably the norm in New York City, but in San Francisco, not so much. Granted, Buffy does kill a lot of vampires but that’s more of a Dustbuster kind of job, not so much an issue for the cops. These bodies, however, belong to people that have been missing a long time…a really long time, actually. Unfortunately, the police feel she is involved somehow. Interrogations being what they are, Buffy decides to bail. This doesn’t really help her case any, mind you. Another conversation with Spike in this issue adds to the growing concern that someone, or something, is after Buffy. During a routine patrol, she runs into a guy being attacked. Later, during a similar patrol, the same dude is in the mix again with some vampires but this time he lays claim to being a Slayer, too. Only difference…his way of slaying is completely different from hers (no spoiler from me, but it’s a doozy). The plot seems to be thickening, I think Andrew Chambliss has done a very good job here. Even the art has grown on me a little bit, as Georges Jeanty does some really nice action sequences. All in all, I’m really digging the new season. It has a little bit of mystery to it, pretty unusual for a franchise that’s over a decade old. Hey, maybe the franchise is undead, too?! Sort of like a lich…okay, maybe not. It’s a good, fun read. You can’t argue with history, the Buffy-verse rocks. So go on, go buy the comic already! |
