"Buffy" Season Eight : The Comic Book - Panandscan.com Article

Joss Whedon’s career might have looked a whole lot different if it hadn’t been for the advent of TV on DVD. Not only has Whedon’s worldwide fan base grown thanks to the presence of ’Buffy,’ ’Angel’ and ’Firefly’ on DVD, but the film ’Serenity’ may never had been made without the strength of its television predecessor’s DVD sales to back it up.

Now a second, long-rumored project is in the works thanks, in part, to dedicated DVD buyers who have kept Whedon’s series at the top of DVD sales charts since their respective debuts.

Whedon is writing a new six-issue Buffy the Vampire Slayer mini-series for Dark Horse Comics. The first volume is due out in October. The series will function as "Season 8" to the television series. What happens to Buffy and her friends after Sunnydale collapses in on itself, and Buffy is freed from the burden of being the world’s only Slayer?

We have some hints from sister series ’Angel.’ Buffy and Dawn, at some point, take up residence in Rome, and former baddie Andrew becomes a watcher-in-training under Giles’ tutelage. As for how all of this happens, when it happens and what the heck happens to the rest of the crew, we’ll have to wait until October to find out.

If you need some Sunnydale hi-jinks to tide you over until October, check out Chuck Jones’ ’Buffy’-inspired video piece after the jump.

Chuck Jones is a Chicago-based video artist who has worked on a series of "isolation pieces" in which he literally isolates an utterance or word from a film or television shows through editing.

The following piece, entitled Buffies, captures every utterance of the word "Buffy" from the show’s first season.
