Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy Spin-off Ideas

What with Buffy finishing and Angel being cancelled in it’s fifth season, the fans are hungry for more stories from the Buffy-verse. Here are my suggestions to what they could be.
Faith - Probably the most likely out of all the possibilities. Eliza Dushku was actually in negotiations for this when Fox came at her with "a big solid offer" and she chose to appear in "Tru Calling" on their network. The series isn’t doing too well in the ratings and is regarded by the critics as a bad show, but executives at Fox "love the show" so it may get a second season. If however it does not, Eliza said she "would love to work with Joss again" specifically stating the holy words "spin-off". So what should the premise be. It was originally going to be Faith travels around on a motorcycle, aided by Ghost Spike. Some sort of arc would have been formed some when and it would have been helmed by Tim Minear with Joss over-seeing the project. Now though, Tim Minear has gone onto "Wonderfalls" and ’Ghost Spike’ has moved over to Angel and has become corpreal again. So my suggestion, is for Doug Petrie - over on "Tru Calling" should helm the series. He has wrtten for Faith the most out of all the writers and aside from Joss and Marti, he was my favourite. Instead of Spike, Andrew should couple Faith. He would be the perfect antidote to Faith and her troubles. I find Wood a totally one-sided character and so I would recommend that he was not in the series. The third regular should probably be a new character (magical abilities?). This premise would allow Faith to literally go anywhere, even to Angel Investigations, thereby seeing all our favourite characters again. Both Xander and Willow (due to their emotional background with her) and Buffy could make an appearance (duh! Slayer!) and because of her sister, so could Dawn
Tales of the Slayer - I’m really suprised that Joss hasn’t thought about this one (or maybe he has, he just hasn’t spoken publicly about it) This premise does not have the problem of a regular cast, and it has the possibility of a Faith, Kendra, Buffy, Kennedy, Vi etc. episode. It has to have no continuity, which is great, because it can be shown in any order. The negative effects are like the books, we don’t get to know the Slayer that well, but if this was a multi -season thing, the Slayers that worked particuarly well could be revisisted. Also, we could have Andrew introduce each episode and Slayer in a very "Tales from the Crypt" (I think it that show) way. It would be great
Seven Crows - I’m probably going to give this it’s own page in a link, because this will probably take up a whole page of ideas, because I’ve really thought about this in detail. It’s based on the John Vornholt novel of the same name and pitches Buffy, Angel, Riley and Sam in the Arizona Desert, facing off against two powerful vampires. The story is brilliant, and I’ll keep you posted when the page is made
Spike and Dru - The most popular villians in the Buffy-verse getting their own series! Sounds good to me! This could be set any time, and in any county, the possibilities for this series are endless. Appearances from Angelus/Angel, Darla, Anyanka, Halfrek and more are all possible. My idea for an arc would be Spike and Dru, pursued by a Slayer and her Watcher. Each season could Spike and Dru on a different quest e.g. avenge Dru’s latest project’s death, search for a mystical item. The regulars could be Spike, Dru, Slayer and Watcher. I really think this series could work
Ripper - Anthony Stewart Head is interested, the BBC is interested, Joss is interested. So why is this series with so much potential not happening? Joss may not trust U.S. executives but the Beeb aren’t cut- throat, like the money - making, evil gits that are The WB, and would not cut him off. They give things a chance.
This will probably be set in Bath, ASH home town and centre around ghosts etc.

Like you, I’ve thought about the possibilities of a spin-off. For me, tales of the Slayer would be the most interesting and could also provide stand alone episodes. I mean, you can tell stories about Slayers in the past, present (potentials turned Slayer) or future Slayers. What I’ve always wondered was, all the previous Slayers took on their mantle as protector against evil, all of which we know of. But what about now? Turning all the potentials into slayers would mean, that there’s now a wide variety of slayers. Some might immediately be drawn tot protect the world, others might be hesitant and use their abilities for other things (like a group of Slayer mercenaries, available for all kinds of (illegal) things). What I mean is that turning a potential into a slayer doesn’t mean she will want to take that task upon her and might even refuse it. Even stories about those kind of slayers would be great.
My most appealing idea is like Tales of the Slayer, but make it in the present and revolve around a school or maybe more. Something like a BTVS version of Hogwarts. Since all the potentials turned Slayer have to be found and trained, what better way than at a school? Maybe even headed by the watcher’s council or members of the Scooby-gang? I mean courses in hand to hand combat, weaponry, demon-lore, slayer lore!!!!!! or even magick (Willow!!!!!!). A show like that would have the most potential and give room for guest roles of all actors on BTVS as well as Angel. My guess is a school like that, would also attract a lot of evil, which can lead to a lot of action-based scenes. Giles has said there’s another Hellmouth in Cleveland, so we’ve also got a possible location.
As you can see there’s a lot of possiblities. But looking at the ending of Chosen and talk on Angel, has lead me to think that if there will be a spinoff, Joss Whedon will most likely make it revolve around the potentials turned Slayer. We’ve already seen Andrew with a bunch of them on the Damage episode. And it’s a format with the most possibilities and can have many themes around it, since there are so many different Slayers now. For now, we can only hope that this if becomes a when and that this happens very soon.

I would lean towards the more character-based spin-offs (i.e. Ripper, Faith, Dru) because characterisation has always been really good in the buffyverse.
I would also prefer a series set in the present because of continuity issues. If Ripper were done, it should probably be set in the present so that its not being judged by what we’ve already seen and can continue on from what has already happened and not have to worry as much about conforming what parts have already been told.

"Tales of..." would be so cool. I know Kennedy wasn’t very popular, but as far as I know Vi was (too bad Amanda and Molly had to die). I’m cracking in laughter at the notion of Andrew ala the Cryptkeeper.
I always wanted an "Oz" spin-off. With Oz wandering around North-America in his van, meeting new people (New Slayers, vamps, watchers, other werewolves).
"Faith" sounds so unlikely (more than the others), specially with "Tru" still around. Also it would have some similarity with "Angel", considering the whole redemption thing.
And there’s "Ripper". I always wanted to see the return of Whistler.

Im ALL for a faith spin off BUT I totally disagree with Andrew being in it... god I couldnt stand him and as much as I love Eliza Dushku (faith) Id think twice about watching it if Andrew was in it.
Cast should be Spike, Wesley, Faith (as people we know) and add a few more.
Remember its not Faith fighting just demons and vampires...Im SURE some of those potential slayers (turned slayers) have turned evil (Id say most actually since the power is meant for one and Ive always thought the power seeks the slayer...the one who will use it right)
Now I know Faith went down a wrong path but she never allowed anyone on the side of good to die (Angel didnt die and if he did...he is a vamp) plus she came back and saved the world (in AU) and went to buffy and helped save it. Im sure there are TRUELY evil slayers out there

I think another good idea would be a spin off around seth greens character "oz". I think that it could be based around him trying to find a cure for being a werewolf, or, perhaps he could learn to control himself in werewolf form; fight evil; save the girl, ect. I think this wouldn’t be to hard, because Oz wasn’t really mentioned that much [to my knowledge] since he came back to sunnydale to see willow.
The location(s) could be more or less anywhere, him on the road, thiland [I think that’s where he learnt to control his wolf form,] Europe...
Guest characters could include anyone from the series, but he would most likely be a loner in this show.
I think the possibility’s are endless with this character, and i’m supprised that this idea wasn’t mentioned in the above article.

Faith - OK Faith is Slayer, so this will be pointless, since we already saw a show about a slayer. Not that it will be bad, or pointless, but I want originallity.
Tales of the Slayer - Getting better, but it still seems to be on the same subject, The Slayer. Besides, I want an arch to follow, not a tale of the week thing.
Seven Crows - OK, so it’s Buffy season 4, in another country? LAME! Next.
Spike and Dru - Getting more creative & daring are we now? A show about villians? hmmmm, that could be good. But Spike has a soul now, if he keeps it, he is just a rip off of Angel. Come back to me with this after you find a way to take his soul away (which you probably can’t).
Ripper - I like this idea the best. Perhaps Joss could produce it over seas. The American audience would be the ones sold the repeats, lol.
Now, let me ask; why do we need a spin off?
Why not creat something totally new?
And why bother with this genre, it’s obvious, it’s not wanted (by the networks) anymore, their new fad is reality TV.
No, I think if Joss wants hs company to survive throughout the next few years, he better think of something a bit different.

Of those, I’d go with Ripper. Not only was that persona an interesting side to Giles, but the BBC aren’t as frustrating as American networks can be. So it has a lot of potential both as a story and for a good run. Whether it’s set in the past or present, I want to see this!
Tales of the Slayer has potential (pun intended?) because an anthology would be a new take what with past Slayers and the current Made-Slayers, but there is a small flaw: I’m fairly sure something like this was done as a comic book and/or book series. As much as I’d like to see this mythology join the ranks of Friday the 13th: The Series, I’d prefer if this world was explored through the point-of-view of an entirely different caste than before.
The Faith spin-off doesn’t have much aside from Dushku’s willingness and a strong fan base. I guess it just sounds like it would be too easy as a series. If there’s a set-up that can overshadow been-there themes of redemption (Angel) and that of being a Slayer (Buffy), it could be something interesting and unique. I just don’t think that road should be taken simply because it can.
The others, I really don’t care about too much. Spike and Dru has a lot of kinks to be worked out, especially concerning its timeframe. I much rather see their stories told in little snippets.
Although this isn’t at all to say that I wouldn’t watch a new spin-off. I’d prefer Joss’ world told at its very weakest than 95% of what’s parading television (i.e. reality TV, and stiff and emotionless dramas).

Personally If they’d ended the show after season 5 a spin off called "Sunnydale" would have worked great with Willow, Xander, Dawn and Anya as the four regulars.
something similar but somewhere else, would be nice with Dawn, Andrew, Kennedy, Vi and Xander. they have their two slayers, they have watcher Jrn Dawn, they have Demon expert Andrew and they have Xander...following a similar type thing like buffy did with a series of monsters of the week and season arcs. Perhaps joss could make it a bit more ’adult’ and aim for showtime type channel or sci-fi or bravo rather than a channel like the WB and UPN..
all four of the ideas above are pretty bad. Dru was a good once in a blue moon baddie but she’s annoying after a few minutes....Spike, I dont think could carry a series and the Tales Of The Slayer hting might work for one off specials but I dont see it keeping a consistant audience week to week if theres no running story

Willow, Faith and the ghost of Anya.
You have uber wicca and a slayer and ghosts haven’t been done that much in Buffy/Angel plus Anya is so funny. it could have characters from the series’ and it could involve the three gathering and training potentials. I would suggest a new love interest for Willow along with regular appearances from Oz. It could also incorporate ideas from tales of the slayers as they are training the potentials and they could delve into the history of being a slayer like Get It Done. There is also the idea of redemption as they all have things they have done that they shouldn’t and they’ve all taken a life. BUT this should not be overdone because of the Angel curse stuff. Also I think they have Xander and Dawn who should set up the watchers council because they are already like watchers in the way that they have no special talents like magic or super strength. I agree with purplefixer too i think Tara could be brought back, but not as a central character. I would also like to see the following characters:
Kendra
Lucy Hanover
The Master
Andrew
Halfrek
Doc(the froggy/lizard guy from season 5 who was on the tower with Dawn because I’m sure he’s not dead)
Drusilla
PHANTOM DENNIS!! (such a nice poltergeist)
Skip
[They could use Riley but he didn’t have that good a character in my opinion]
The Potentials (bar Kennedy even though I know a lot of people don’t like it when Willow finds new lovers but she is moody and grouchy and Willow should finish it with her because then she wouldn’t be so upset)
Clem
The Watchers Council (they can’t all have been killed by 1 bomb)
All cast regulars from Buffy and Angel
Gunn could also be a male character in my idea for a spin-off along with Phantom Dennis. But we will have to be able to see him some of the time.

I know a "Dawn" based show may not be the fan favourite, i believe is the only idea, using some of the original characters, that can be doable.
Since Michelle Trachtenberg is red hot right now in Tinsel town, and she is a self confesed Slayerverse fan, whit Fans all over the world waiting for a savior from television reality craze obscurity, a concept I began toying whit is now being revisited.
“For every action there’s a subsequent reaction.”
Anya and Giles theory is proven wrong, the un-balancement in the slayer line is not Buffy’s resurrection, but is actually Dawn’s creation, -Buffy already “died” and came back to life, allowing the calling of the second slayer- since Dawn (a powerless girl) has the same blood as the slayer (no other slayer was called after Buffy’s second dead) the line runs thru her, there for, the un-balancement that the floating eye monstrous thingy is talking about is, that there’s a slayer that is not a slayer, a break in reality (Dawn’s creation), and the chaos caused subsequently by the closing of the Sunnydale Hellmouth, which altered the whole universal good/evil output balance.
As a way of bringing things back to their natural order, Hellmouths start popping out all over the world causing a new impending apocalypse, to add even more difficulties, since the first evil was defeated, ancient demon lords have been fighting for the control of it’s power, and from the ashes of a world wide secret war, new heroes will appear, old faces will come back, and a new battle starts, as the newly reformed slayer council begins plotting (whit or without Buffy’s consent –mystery-) against Dawn, believing that her dead will restore the natural balance.
Meanwhile Dawn was abandoned by Buffy in Rome, with no one left to go to, Dawn, and her best friend (that happens to be a half demon), turn to Giles for help, he sends them to the US of A, where Dawn will uncover the mysteries surrounding her unreal life, and the destiny that awaits her.
A girl haunted by her un-existing memories, a friend haunted by her past, a metropolis crawling whit monsters, and a mystery that will either save or destroy the world, this will be the premise.
The whole concept’s main idea is about regaining the control of your life, is about growing up, is about finding yourself, while you fight against creepy monsters and maintain a social life.
I know it may be cheesy or overloaded, by I believe this "Story" is really expandable, and it can go on for years.
Feel free to feedback.
