Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Once believing that being a Slayer was a curse, Buffy Summers now embraces it as her destiny in the fifth season of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, available on DVD.

Featuring all 22 episodes plus audio commentaries as well as interviews with the cast and crew, season five continues the ongoing arc of our modern-day young Wonder Woman who truly redefines "girl power" and "female empowerment."

In season five, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) moves away from college and more into adulthood. With the help of Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), who she personally reinstates as her Watcher, Buffy embarks on a journey to understand the true meaning of being the Slayer.

However, she also has to deal with matters of the heart with the departure of Riley (Marc Blucas) in "Into the Woods" and an unexpected suitor named Spike (James Marsters) in "Crush.” And if that is not enough, Buffy also has to deal with the arrival of kid sister Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) who plays a very important part in this season’s arc.

Episode highlights from the fifth season includes the opener "Buffy vs. Dracula"— in which the Slayer meets her match with the legendary count, and the Emmy-nominated "The Body"— in which Buffy and her friends deal with the loss of her mother, Joyce (Kristine Sutherland).

Like the season before, Buffy had episode crossovers with Angel: "Fool for Love"/"Darla”— Spike tells Buffy how he killed two Slayers in his time, how he met his beloved Dru (Juliet Landau) and of his sire Angelus (David Boreanaz) and Darla (Juile Benz).

"Forever"— Angel returns to Sunnydale to console Buffy when she grieves over the death of her mother, Joyce.

The finale, "The Gift", demonstrates why Buffy is a true heroine when she makes the ultimate sacrifice.
