From Scotsman.com Buffy The Vampire SlayerBuffy and Angel take third place in Cult TV pollFriday 17 June 2005, by Webmaster Dr Who Is Top Cult Show By Pa Reporter The adventures of sci-fi hero Dr Who have been voted the most popular cult TV show by television fans. The Time Lord topped a poll of weird and wonderful programmes stretching back more than 30 years. Dr Who returned to British screens earlier this year with actor Christopher Eccleston playing the lead role and 19-year-old former pop princess Billie Piper as his side kick Rose Tyler. Eccleston, 41, is the ninth incarnation of The Doctor. The others were William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Sylvester McCoy, Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Tom Baker and Colin Baker. Paul McGann played the Doctor in a one-off TV movie. Dr Who knocked American sci-fi series Star Trek from the number one spot in the poll conducted by the website Cult TV - a position the US show had held since the first survey was carried out in 1994. In third place was the demon slaying teenager Buffy and the spin-off series Angel. A sci-fi series based on the 1994 movie Stargate and its spinoff Stargate Atlantis hold the next spot. The classic British outer space series Blake’s Seven is fifth, and Gerry Anderson’s puppet series Thunderbirds was voted sixth. Next was the off-beat 60s show The Avengers followed by the equally eccentric programme The Prisoner. In ninth spot was the sci-fi show Babylon 5 and in 10th was the Mulder and Scully double act The X Files.
