Comic Books are My Friends (joss whedon mention)

Welcome to the Fodder Network’s first comic book blog. I’m Shawn DePasquale your host, head writer, master of ceremonies, puppet-master, master of the universe. I’ll be bringing you a daily dose of comic book related medicine to cure the work-week boredom blues with a nice variety of news, gossip and editorials (like this first post).

I’d like this to be the comic book stop for ALL comic book readers with an eye towards the new-occasional readers, so if you’re an avid fan like myself and you feel like I’m covering some obvious topics know that it’s all part of my master plan. You see I want to make this a place where Joe Knownothing can come to off the street and learn all they need know about the current landscape of the comic book industry. Where Nancy Clueless can come to be educated on the basics of a major crossover event and then learn about the nitty-gritty nerdy stuff that keeps us comic fanboys coming back for more.

There will be news, reviews and commentary on all my favorite titles, topics and creators. I’ll post about Brian Michael Bendis’ ability to take old concepts and give them new life in his Ultimate Spiderman or the sheer beauty of David Mack’s Kabuki. Joss Whedon’s (creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer) current run on Marvel’s Astonishing X-Men. In fact anything by Joss Whedon is amazing including his underrated mini-series, Frey. There are literally thousands of topics to cover and I intend to touch on as many as possible in my time here.

I’ve been reading comics since I was ten and have been writing my own independently published comics for the past six years. That’s over sixteen years of comic book knowledge and experience that I’m eager to share! I have the ENTIRE run of Marvel’s Punisher 2099 that I collected in 8th grade (which you can be sure I’ll be devoting an entire column to...yes it’s that awesome). Aside from writing my own comics I also letter them and have learned much about the art of lettering over the past six years. Not only will I discuss comics past and present but I’ll give as much advice and guidance as I can on how to make your own. Plus I’ve got some great stories from various comic conventions I’ve attended that I can’t wait to share.

So...if you’re a fan of comic books, interested in making your own comics books or just looking to kill some time reading the thoughts and opinions of an aspiring creator and long time fan then you’ve come to the right place. I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing a bit about me and that I’ve piqued your interests enough to bring you back for my first official column. Thanks and drive home safely.
