Buffy : Tales of the Vampires

Dark Horse’s Tales Of The Vampires

Saturday 4 October 2003, by Webmaster

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is providing two stories for Tales of the Vampires #1, a five-issue mini-series from Dark Horse Comics that recounts the stories of vampires across time.

"I’d wanted to go down this road since we first got the license for Buffy," editor Scott Allie said, "but it was Joss who got the ball rolling and worked out how we’d do it with writers from the show.

"With Joss and the other writers from the show-including Brett Matthews, who’s gone on to write some high-profile stuff for Marvel-it’s basically a show reunion just months after the TV show ended, which I think is the thing readers are responding to the most, so far."

Here’s how Dark Horse describes the series :

"Sunnydale is no more and Buffy has moved on, taking the best show on TV with her. For those looking to fill the void, Joss Whedon and Dark Horse humbly offer Tales of the Vampires. Whedon and his intrepid crew of Buffy writers have plotted out a five-issue series that recounts the stories of vampires across time. Some familiar, like Spike and Dru, some mysterious, these vampires offer all Buffy fans a chance to reenter the universe they’ve come to love."

In the first issue, Whedon teams with newcomer Alex Sanchez to set the series up and then combines with former Catwoman artist Cameron Stewart on a twisted tale of a disaffected youth who turns to vampirism. Goddard and Paul Lee revisit Spike and Drusilla’s past, focusing on their time in Prague before they came to wreak havoc in Sunnydale.

John Totleben provides a cover for the issue, which will go on sale Dec. 10 and will cost $2.99.
