David Boreanaz - "Bones" Tv Series - About.com Review

Not bad! Not bad at all! I find the guy who lost his brother to a monster kind of annoying, along with the "female scientist" who says things like, "I have a right to know!" Really?! Has she ever heard of the "Homeland Security Act"? I can’t count the number of things that the government doesn’t think that we should know about. Can you say.. Food and Drug Administration, boys and girls?

Amazingly enough.. The teens in this show act pretty well. I find them believable and interesting. The sibling rivalry between the boy that is trying to raise a monster and his sister is nothing if not diverting, and I think pretty true-to-life, relatively speaking. I like the graphics too. The little "monster" and the effects caused by the full-grown creatures are fun and intriguing.

Observations: The lady scientist is unnecessary, or at least a little too annoying. Ditto for the guy who lost his brother, and should lose his family because of his obsession, (Okay.. judgment on my part.)

Threshold

A really well done show with good acting from actors whom most folks will recognize. While seeing familiar actors in a new role can get in the way of a new series, the show gets past that hurtle. Recent episodes have been able to surmount the politics, along with the personal conflicts within the main cast of characters, which form the base for primary team for the series. The female lead is an example of how a lead character (female or otherwise) should be portrayed. Carla Gugino does a creditable job of portraying both and a caring, compassionate person.

Bones

Please! Give me a break here! This show could use some help from a quality show like Threshold, particularly with its lead character! Emily Deschanel plays a character who is not a professional, but rather a... shall we say, to be politically correct...pain in the butt with attitude.

Why is the star of Angel even in this program as a "backup" character? David Boreanaz may never win an award, but he did a creditable job of being the lead in a good series. Umm, who is Deschanel? Please tell me she’s not one of those actors known for their roles on daytime soaps. Reviews have said that the show is based on "best selling author Kathy Reichs’ characters(?), novels(?). Either way, I hope she got a lot of money to be affiliated with this series. Has it been canceled yet? (Please, say yes!)

Supernatural

A slow starter. I really got tired of the "Gee, let’s rehash family history and what "Dad would want us to do" story lines. This show has spent more time on that kind of thing, rather than the horrors that are supposedly the subjects of the episodes. The last few shows have shown a real improvement. Read that as being interesting and reasonably scary. Originally, I thought this series could get its stories told in half an hour. The latest episodes have been worth the hour that have been allotted to them.

The acting is really pretty good. No false steps. It was fun to see another Angel regular featured in one of the episodes.

Invasion

Sorry to say, I haven’t watched Invasion after the first hyped premiere. I really felt that I knew were the show was going (slowly at that), and I really wasn’t interested.

Lost

...on the other hand, continues to be of some interest, but I only watch the reruns on Saturday night, because I still have some deep-seated hostility against the originator of the series. He thinks can throw anything into the mix, and the viewers will swallow it. "Um...Let me see. Yeah. That’s it! I’ll magically put the Eiffel tower on the north side of the island, and let the viewers try to figure out why it’s there!"

Yeah. Right. Please give me a storyline with a framework that I can appreciate, and I may stay tuned!

Night StalkerHow do I express how much I am disappointed with this show, without resorting to XXX-rated language?! Okay...maybe X-rated language.

The acting is reasonably good and solid, but the premise and story lines are nothing like what a fan of the old series would have expected or deserved. The producers have trotted out this whole new story which is both annoying, and (apparently) designed to hold the viewers’ interest over the long term. Bottom line here folks: I want monsters! I want closure! Most of all, I want some of the fun and scares that the original series offered. If you can’t give me those things, get off my TV!

I must say,David is refreshing in this role. He really is, all his nuances are spontaneous and real. I must say also that Emily is playing her role like a sour puss. Can she just grow up a little faster so that we viewers don’t become bored of her. Please let your hair down a little more Em.!

Well, I disagree with his assessment of just about every one of these shows, but, of course, I particularly found his Bones review to be way off the mark. Certainly there are a few things I would change about the show as far as Emily’s character goes. For one thing, I would have her stop saying she doesn’t understand popular references so much. I would also dress her the way real field people dress when they are in the field - jeans, shirt, and no big clunky necklaces. But I love this show and mostly find her character endearing and Booth’s character is great. David is doing a bang-up job as Booth - like he was born to it. I get the impression this entire review was given little thought and the main idea was to just say bad things. Some reviewers think that makes them look cool. I don’t think so.
