The Avengers

UPDATE: We’ve received a bit more unofficial information regarding the film including three covers for the Blu-rays and DVD as well as a more complete look at the potential special features.

THE AVENGERS has finally hit theaters and after its first weekend, it is doing exceptionally well with a record breaking opening at the box office. And why shouldn’t it be doing well? It combines the collective awesomeness of the Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo… for this film) movies into one film that is so full of amazing that it almost seems impossible.

Of course joining the heroes who have already had their own films are Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), both characters have made appearances in other Marvel movies. Plus the villain you love to hate, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), is back and ready to cause mischief. Then there’s Nick Fury (Sam Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and more. Oh and did I mention that Joss freakin’ Whedon wrote and directed the film? I hope by now you know that, but if not, that’s just like Reason #121.

The whole idea for the film is the heroes coming together to kick ass, but this is the actual more officialish synopsis for the film: ”The S.H.I.E.L.D. agency brings together a team of superhumans to help save the Earth from annihilation by extraterrestrial invaders.”

Now believe it or not, but it looks like THE AVENGERS has already been given a home video release date (HELLS YES!). It’s still very early, but it looks like THE AVENGERS will be arriving on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D early in the fall on September 25. We have a look at what could potentially be the cover art and a look at what special features will be included with the release. Word is that a 10-disc set will also be released with THE AVENGERS that will include all of the films leading up to the film (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America), but no official word on that yet.
