Latimes.com Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog"Dr. Horrible" Web Series sequel taking shape - Is a theatrical version in the future ?Wednesday 22 April 2009, by Webmaster The Internet musical "Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog," starring Neil Patrick Harris, was a Web sensation last fall. Fans crashed the official site, dr.horrible.com, while the downloadable version of the musical hit the top of the iTunes chart. Now some details for the sequel have emerged — and it looks like the creators want to stay true to the indie, low-budget aesthetic that made "Dr. Horrible" an instant cult item. Joss Whedon, who directed and was a co-creator, recently told reporters at the Paley Festival in Hollywood that the sequel could take any number of formats, including an online series or possibly a feature film. "We’ve talked about doing an actual studio film, and we’ve talked about doing an independent tiny little thing," Whedon was quoted as saying. "We’ve talked about everything in between, the bumper sticker, whatever format." He added that the sequel could even take a theatrical form, which would please those of us at Culture Monster to no end. But he said that he ultimately wants to retain creative control of the show and to produce it " the same way we did the first one, which is out of our hearts." As you may have noticed, those of us at Culture Monster are positively obsessed with all things Neil Patrick Harris. (Well, some of us more than others.) No need for restraining orders, though: We’ll be more than satisfied to see Harris take to the stage as the evil Dr. Horrible, a role he was born to play for a live audience. |
