FANS TRY TO REVIVE ’ANGEL’ By DON KAPLAN March 23, 2004 — ’ANGEL" fans are hoping for a miracle to save their favorite show. But just in case a miracle doesn’t come along, they’ve taken matters into their own hands. In just a few weeks, devoted fans of the WB vampire series have managed to raise more than $23,000 and have used the money to buy ads in Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter to implore execs at the WB (or any other network) to bring the show back. "The best scenario would be for The WB to reconsider their decision to cancel the show and truly give [executive producer] Joss [Whedon] and company an opportunity to end the show on their own terms," wrote campaign participant Theresa Fortier in an e-mail to The Post yesterday. The group has even hired a "moving billboard" - a truck with a billboard on its back - for $700 a day and plastered it with the slogan, "We’ll follow ’Angel’ to Hell . . . or another network." They’ve paid the driver to cruise past media outlets in Los Angeles, including the offices of UPN and its parent company, Paramount; HBO; and Fox for the next two weeks. The truck also drives past Warner Brothers, the studio that produces "Angel" and owns The WB, the network that decided earlier this year that it would not renew "Angel." The group is now planning to send 2,000 chocolate bars with its campaign logo and slogan on the wrapper to various executives at Warner Brothers, Fox, TNT and other media targets in addition to the cast and crew of "Angel." Fans of the show have contributed money to the cause via a Web site, www.savingangel.org, that has been on the Internet for about a month. "Angel," starring David Boreanaz, ends its fifth season in May. 2 Forum messages |
