Breaking TV News: FIREFLY’S GINA TORRES ON HER PAST ROLES AND HER NEW SHOW STANDOFF

She plays the head of Los Angeles’ Crisis Negotiation Unit on her new series, but she will always remember her spaceship days

THE SKINNY: Gina Torres has certainly found herself on many popular cult shows - from ANGEL, FIREFLY and 24, and the actress feels a reverence for all her past credits, especially as she heads into the first season of her new series STANDOFF where she plays the head of Los Angeles’ Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU).

“Occasionally, I miss the spaceship, but not that often,” she says with a laugh. “I have a gun [on STANDOFF], so that sort of keeps it all familiar. What is wonderful about all of that is that all of those shows were character-driven, regardless of where they were set and what we were doing and who was blowing up and whether there were aliens involved or vampires or not. They were character-driven and they were very interesting characters to explore. And that’s what’s wonderful about STANDOFF and what attracted me to this show was that it was much the same. We’re exploring the human condition and everybody’s character has a different take on it. And we get to that take every week in every storyline and I think that’s interesting.”
