Haley Pulos - "Dollhouse" Tv Series - Inspire-magazine.org Interview

Sunday 5 July 2009, by Webmaster

Dollhouse’s first season became an instant hit. Fans from Buffy, Angel, and Firefly have been hooked since the synopsis was released for the show. This time, it’s not a blond female as a lead, it’s Eliza Dushku! Lucky enough, Haley Pullos appeared in an episode of the pilot season, and she shares us the behind the scenes action. From hanging out with the director, to chatting with Eliza...she’s here to fill us in on what the show is really like!

Hi Haley! How are you?

I’m great, thank you.

You were lucky enough to film with a lot of big named actors on Dollhouse, how was the filming process?

I loved it! It was so amazing! Joss and Eliza are the best – Joss is the funniest guy alive and Eliza is the sweetest person ever.

Tell us, what was your reaction when you booked the role?

I jumped up and down and screamed a couple of times. And then after a few minutes, I jumped up and down and screamed some more. That went on most of the first day.

Dollhouse was created by Joss Whedon who also created Buffy and Angel, have you ever heard of the 2 shows before starring in the episode?

I’d only heard of Buffy before filming Dollhouse, but I’d never seen it. But my dad is a huge fan of Firefly, so I knew about that show.

You were able to film scenes with Eliza Dushku who is such a big star, what was it like being with her?

Eliza was like a big sister. She helped me with some school work, she made sure that I always had enough to eat, we talked about music and movies. She was fun to hangout with. She’s a great actress also. Sometimes we’d joke around on the set, between takes. And when someone said something funny, Eliza would always laugh, but when it was time to do the scene, she was instantly into character again.

What was the first scene you shot for the episode?

The first scene was when I’m in the dark, crying, and talking on the phone to my TV dad. Afterwards, Joss told me that he got tears in his eyes during that scene.

Of course, everyone makes mistakes! What were some goofy mistakes that were made when behind the camera?

Um, I can’t really remember any mistakes. Everyone was always so professional on the set and fun to hangout with between takes.

May you share us a little bit of inside information on the set?

Well, I can tell you that Joss is funny and brilliant all at the same time. He was always playful between takes. I can also tell you that in the scene where Eliza rescues me from the kidnappers, we’re not really in a broken down house in the desert, we’re on a sound stage that they built to look like the inside of a house. And I never spent more than about 20 seconds inside that refrigerator, most of the time I was in video village watching Joss direct the crew or chit chatting with Eliza.

Do you remember any favorite moments while filming?

Definitely! Joking around with Joss. One time, I was clapping my hands together and pointing with a sour look on my face. Joss asked what I was doing and I explained that I was pretending to be the Cymbal Monkey from the Simpsons Movie, the part where the Monkey is clapping his cymbals together and pointing at Marge, trying to get Homer to listen to her. Then Joss sat down across from me and he started to pretend that he was the cymbal monkey too! The rest of the crew just stared at us like we were crazy. It was so much fun!

Being young as you are, you’re booking so many roles already. Would you have picked any other different careers other than acting?

NEVER! Acting is my favorite thing to do in all the world. Before I started acting, I always begged my mom to let me act. Finally, she said yes and that’s how I got here.

What project will we see you in next?

I have four movies coming out this year. I have a supporting role in each one.

Who are you hoping to work with soon or later?

Brad Pitt. But if Joss or Eliza called, I’d drop everything to work with them again.

What is the one favorite thing you like to do when you are home?

I love to play with my dog, Bubba, my chinchilla, Fuzzy, my evil cat, Angel, and my adopted pigeon, Snowball.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start acting?

Just follow your heart, do your best, and never give up.
