Has Superman Been Cast ? Michael Rosenbaum wasn’t going to reprise his role as Lex Luthor

August 19, 2004 - Moviehole reported yesterday that director "Bryan Singer has stopped looking for his Superman for the time being. Whether that means he’s just having a few days off to look over the tapes of those that have already tested or whether it means he’s got his Superman - I hear a couple of [actors] gave pleasing auditions earlier this week - we don’t know."

Superman-V.com, however, claims that the Man of Steel has indeed been cast. "Tom Welling has apparently verbally agreed to be Superman in the new movie but it appears that not all of the studio execs are behind the idea," the site reports. "A compromise has been reached. The recent casting calls are not only a legal obligation of the studio but to appease those who are against the idea and want to see if Singer can find anyone better. Tom Welling will likely be screentest against other hopefuls who will be selected from the casting calls."

Unfortunately, those casting calls haven’t gone that well. "Last week was pretty pathetic. I was like, God, is that all there is? I mean, they were nice on the eyes, but..." Seattle casting agent Patty Kalles informed the New York Post.

So if Welling is Superman then does that mean his Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum will reprise his role as Lex Luthor for the big-screen? The actor nervously refused to even discuss it with the press, according to IESB.
