WHY HIM: For the past six years, McClung has remained at the helm of programming at this local arthouse haven. A film school dropout and self-proclaimed aficionado in the field, Clinton has brought some of the most well-received films and festivals to the Boston area year after year.

WHAT HE WANTS TO SEE:

1. ``SERENITY’’: opens nationwide Sept. 30.

`` `Buffy’ was a failed movie that became a TV show, and `Serenity’ is a failed TV show that is being turned into a movie,’’ McClung said. ``I didn’t even watch it until it was on DVD, and it was one of the most well-made character shows I’ve ever seen.’’

2. ``PROOF’’: opens nationwide Sept. 16. Starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins, Hope Davis and Jake Gyllenhaal, this high-intensity drama is based on London’s West End hit play. The story of a young girl (Paltrow) who comes to terms with her mathematician father’s mental illness won playwright David Auburn the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for drama. McClung is a fan of ``Proof’’ director John Madden (``Shakespeare in Love’’), who also directed the stage version, and he’s excited to see how McClung will adapt it for the screen.
