I’m on the record as saying a sequel to 28 DAYS LATER, called 28 WEEKS LATER, is a terrifically bad idea. Especially when the movie follows the cure of the Rage virus, the repopulation of London and then the reinfection after a guy somehow wanders in and everything starts all over again. Sounds kinda cheesy to me. Jeremy Renner, who starred in the indie flick DAHMER, will star as the hero Sgt. Doyle who is part of the Special Forces team working to restore order in London. Assume he’ll also battle some zombies.

The original film’s creative trio - Andrew MacDonald, Andrew Garland and Danny Boyle - will return to produce with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (INTACTO) taking over as director. Fox Atomic, the new youth-oriented arm of Fox, will take over production from Fox Searchlight who released the original film. No word yet on when filming might begin. Renner recently completed a role alongside Brad Pitt in Warner Bros.’ THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES.

Little Known Fact: Renner’s a friend of David Boreanaz and guested on a few episodes of "Angel."
