More than an inch and a half of rain fell in downtown Modesto by 6 p.m. Among those who found themselves beneath the storm’s debris was actor Jeremy Renner. Much like the loud crashes and narrow escapes viewers would find in one of his movies, Renner said he was on the run when a 50-foot tree fell on his mother’s house. The city had planned to remove the tree, Renner said. Just as the 37-year-old Modesto native was sitting down to coffee in the dining room of his mother’s home on the 200 block of Elmwood Court, Renner heard what sounded like a freight train barreling through the house. “I just heard lots of noise and craziness, and I felt branches and broken glass on my neck, so I started running - even though I wasn’t really sure what I was running from,” said Renner.
