Comicon.com Joss WhedonJoss Whedon - "Astonishing X-Men" Comic Book triumphs in Wizard Fan AwardsSaturday 6 August 2005, by Webmaster Wizard Fan Award winners The 2004 Wizard Fan Awards were announced, and not surprisingly, Marvel was the big winner with X-men variants sweeping the majority of the categories. DC scored with Identity Crisis and the Utility Belt. The highlight of the evening, however was the winning entry in the Wizard Fan Film contest, a comedy called "Ultimate Eye for the Vertigo Guy," in which actors portraying Chuck Austen, Mark Millar and Brian Bendis went to John Constantine’s house and gave him a makeover to make him more palatable. No one was laughing harder than Ed Brubaker or The Beat. You can see the whole film here, and stay through to the end for the Millar/Bendis makeover of Yorick Brown. Other wise, in yet another symbol of comics becoming just part of the mix at their own conventions, it was a bit odd to see the awards for Letterer, Colorist and Editor getting an "earlier in the evening" run down, while Michael Turner, for instance, showed up to present the award for Favorite Action Figure Line.
