Joss Whedon Honored With Library Donation

Thursday 10 February 2005, by Webmaster

The Whedonverse Multimedia Project honors its namesake, Joss Whedon, with a donation to his hometown library.

(PRWEB) February 9, 2005 - Last year the WB Network gave fans of Joss Whedon"s "Angel" a unique Valentines Day present: it cancelled the show. Knowing not to expect flowers and candy this year either, fans decided to try to repair the damage to their broken hearts by sharing what they love with those in need.

The Whedonverse Multimedia Project is an organization of fans who wish to bring the shows created by Joss Whedon to public libraries, hospitals, shelters and other organizations in need of DVDs or books.

As a tribute to the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly; the Multimedia Project is kicking off its campaign by donating a complete set of each of these shows on DVD to a library in Joss Whedon"s hometown: Popular Library at the Mid-Manhattan Branch of the New York Public Library.

The Director of Popular Library, Elena Bivona, noted: "Popular Library at Mid-Manhattan would be delighted to receive these DVDs. Buffy and Angel continue to be popular and in demand here, and we don’t own Firefly at all. Thank you very much."

The donation should reach the library in time for Valentines Day.

Want to participate? Here’s how:

- make a financial contribution to the project

- donate directly to a public library or other chartiable organization and contact the project so it can keep a tally

- fill out a request form at your local library asking them to carry these materials

- tell your public library or other charitable organization about the project so they can contact us and request items

In addition, the Project is seeking to partner with a DVD retailer or distributor to purchase these items at a discount. The ability to stretch our donation dollars will allow us to provide more of these materials to organizations that need them.

Tributes to other members of the Whedonverse are in the works including: Julie Benz (Murrysville, PA), Adam Busch (East Meadow, NY), Jewel Staite (Vancouver, CAN), James Marsters (Modesto, CA) and Alyson Hannigan (Atlanta, GA). Four public libraries have already submitted requests for donations and are on the Project’s waiting list. Fans can nominate others to receive a tribute once the donations to these libraries are fulfilled.
