Joss Whedon - It’s Down To Three Directors For X-men 3

Wednesday 13 October 2004, by Webmaster

EXC - OCTOBER 08, 2004 - AN UPDATE ON X3 FROM FOX REP!

A representative from 20th Century Fox has contacted us regarding the upcoming X-MEN 3 film (portions of this message have been edited due to privacy issues):

"Fox Studios is hard at work on the next film in the X-Men saga! We have been busy getting our next franchise, FANTASTIC FOUR off the ground. Production on the film is going fantastic, and the studio cannot wait to see the final results! Well, on to X3. As you may already know, the studio has hired a great writer by the name of Simon Kinberg to pen the script. As with most films, expect the script to go through possible re-writes, especially as soon as the studio signs a director.

Regarding that, we are working VERY hard to find the perfect director to do X3. The studio has it narrowed down to a few good men, and talks are being held often between both parties. Two of these three men have worked with Fox Studios before, and have been suggested by not only the head of the studio, but executive producer, Avi Arad. It’s getting quite close, and a final decision should be made shortly after final presentations are made to the studio.

Please know that Fox Studios is trying its hardest to continue the X-MEN franchise and put it in the right direction. We love what Bryan Singer did with the previous two films, and will only expand on the universe. Bringing not only new characters, but older ones you have come to know and love, X3 will be the event film when complete! Cast members (besides a few) are not signed as of yet, but deals will be made beginning in 2005.

Thanks for giving the opportunity to spread this word to the fans of the franchise! Yours truly, ************"
