Joss Whedon - Wizard World Con Chicago on August 2004 - Tara Comeback Plan

Sunday 30 April 2006, by Webmaster

Joss Whedon spoke at the "Wizard World convention" in Chicago in August 2004 about his original plans for bringing the character of Tara back :

“In one of the final episodes, the third to last episode, Buffy was going to basically get a ‘get out of jail free’ card. One completely reality-altering things that she could have - she could bring Angel back to her, she could do anything she wanted. At the end of the episode she basically comes to Willow and says ‘Look at these shoes I got!’ and Willow’s, like, ‘What?’ ‘I got these really awesome shoes. I wanted them, and now I have them!’ and Willow’s like ‘You... used... the wish... for shoes?’ and Buffy says ‘Of course not, you idiot,’ and walks out of the room and Willow turns around and Tara’s standing behind her.”

  • I have explored this topic of Tara coming back while doing research for a paper I did on the controversy surrounding Amber Benson’s exit from Buffy and I as well as many fans have come to the conclusion that this "Reunion" plot may have been a mere cover story concocted by Joss Whedon in order to deflect criticism for killing Tara in the first place and that he had no intetion of bringing Tara back at all. The reason I have come to this conclusion is that I have read that no such storyline seemed to have existed prior to that point and no other Buffy writers have ever confirmed that such a storyline was in the works. Plus, Amber Benson herself seemed unaware of the story’s existence. By the way if anyone is interested in reading my report, contact me at ERICKVOSHEL@msn.com
