Iesb.net Joss WhedonJoss Whedon - "Wonder Woman" Movie - Sophia Bush rumored for the roleRobert Sanchez Sunday 7 January 2007, by Webmaster Will Sophia Bush Be Our Favorite Amazonian Princess ? A few weeks ago, I received a tip to keep an eye on Sophia Bush because she just might be in the running for the lead role in Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman. ImageWe didn’t report anything on it because I couldn’t get any response or confirmation from anyone, however, I knew that we would have the chance to talk to the lovely young lady during the press junket for The Hitcher very soon. This past Friday night, I was invited to a special little reception for Rogue’s The Hitcher at Loggia at the Highlands. It was a pretty cool evening to hang out with our colleagues, friends and also the cast from the film. As we were “mingling” with friends, a publicist asked if we wanted to talk to Sophia so of course we obliged. Let me be the first to admit that I have never seen an episode of One Tree Hill and I have never seen any of her work. The truth is that with the exception of a few images on the web, I really didn’t know what she looked like. Wow, I must be living under a bridge, not only is she extremely beautiful but she also holds a great conversation. So after briefly talking about “The Hitcher” and all the cool ass kicking that she does in the film I brought up the question regarding Wonder Woman, has she been offered or auditioned for the role? I’m not the kind of person to pop out an audio recorder in the middle of a shindig or try to conduct an interview during a social gathering, little rude in my opinion, but I did try to remember word for word her response to my question (I actually ran and made some quick notes on a napkin) which went a little something like this IESB: “Now that you have done some action work would you consider maybe tackling a superheroine role? Sophia Bush: After all the great action that The Hitcher had, I am up for anything, I really liked all the ass kicking that I got to do. IESB: So have you auditioned or has anybody talk to you about Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman? Sophia Bush: Maybe, we’ll see. IESB: So you have talked to somebody about Wonder Woman. Sophia Bush: Maybe, we’ll see (smiles) At this point Sophia is all smiles and would not answer anything else about the subject and like I said earlier, I wasn’t there to interview her but instead to get “three sheets to the wind” with all of my colleagues. Saturday morning, I got a chance to sit down with Sophia for an exclusive video interview but it was cut a bit short and I didn’t think it was appropriate to have the exact same conversation all over again. So will she be Wonder Woman? I honestly think that it is too early for any casting or any real news for this film. I would suspect that the second draft for Wonder Woman is still a few months away and we will probably hear something around spring time. Can she pull off Wonder Woman? Let’s look at three quick points. 1) She falls under the age range that Joss has mentioned between 18 and 30. She turns 25 later this year. 2) She is not a tiny waif girl like other rumored contenders such as Rachel Bilson, Sophia is 5 foot 6 1/2 inches tall. 3) She is brunette, incredibly attractive and has a great physique. ImageIn my opinion, physically she could pull off Wonder Woman and under the right director be excellent at it. But then again, who cares about my opinion. Wonder Woman is a fictional DC Comics superheroine co-created by William Moulton Marston and wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston. Wonder Woman first appeared in All Star Comics #8 (Dec. 1941). She is among the first - and most famous - comic book superheroines, and is written as a founding member of the Justice League. In most adaptations, Wonder Woman is Princess Diana of the Amazon warrior tribe of Greek mythology, "Diana" being the Roman name for the Greek goddess Artemis on whom the character is based. The Amazon ambassador to the larger world, Diana was awarded several gifts by the Olympian gods, including the Lasso of Truth (created from the Golden Girdle of Gaea) and indestructible bracelets/gauntlets (formed from the shield Aegis). For several years she was described in the splash page of each story, as "beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Mercury, and stronger than Hercules." Marston designed Wonder Woman to reflect his conception of an empowered independent female character, with several subsequent writers also working this idea into the character. In addition to comic books, the character was featured in the popular 1975-79 television adaptation starring Lynda Carter, as well as the Super Friends and Justice League animated series. Plans for a motion picture adaptation are also underway. Keywords |
