Chicagotribune.com Just a few memorable moments from 2007 in the TV realm (joss whedon mention)Saturday 29 December 2007, by Webmaster You’ve already seen my Top 10 and Runners Up list — which pretty exhaustively delves into my favorite TV programs of the year. And I’ve also shared a roster of my least favorite TV of the year. There’s even more list-y goodness to come (regarding weird or deplorable tube-related occurrences, plus my favorite TV documentaries of the year). But on a positive note, here are just a few of the distinctive scenes, characters or moments of the year (and please note, my list concerns shows that were not already mentioned in my Top 10/Runners Up list): * The karaoke scene near the end of the run of “Gilmore Girls” proved why viewers stuck with this show – and Lauren Graham – for seven years. And the show’s series finale was moving as well. * The presence of the excellent Katee Sackoff, Miguel Ferrer and Kevin Rankin led me to sit through many more “Bionic Woman” episodes than I otherwise would have. * “The O.C.” overstayed its welcome, but its series finale was sweet and well done. * The Season 1 “Heroes” episode “Company Man,” which gave the excellent Jack Coleman a showcase as the mysterious H.R.G., proved to be a high-water mark that the show never again equaled. * Joss Whedon announced he was coming back to TV with the Eliza Dushku vehicle “Dollhouse.” The Hollywood strike has interfered with that plan just a little, but let’s hope “Dollhouse” does indeed happen some day. * The pilot for “Reaper” was golden – even if much of what followed was leaden. The show has improved some, but Ray Wise is still the main draw as the natty, nasty Devil. * Leighton Meester’s Blair Waldorf has evolved into quite the catty soap-opera villainess in “Gossip Girl.” She’s not quite a heir to the tradition of Tonya on BBC America’s “Footballer’s Wives,” but she may just get there some day. * "The Colbert Report’s" Sean Penn-vs.-Stephen Colbert "Meta-Free-Phor-All" was highly enjoyable. And that’s the word. * Paul Rudd had a great turn as a washed-up rock star in an episode of “Veronica Mars” called “Debasement Tapes.” * “Jericho” fans exploded everyone’s expectations by getting CBS to bring the show back. I thought they were nuts, but the “Jericho” faithful did it – partly by sending tons of peanuts to network suits. |
