Ugo.com Kristy SwansonKristine Swanson - About Career - Ugo.com InterviewSunday 18 June 2006, by Webmaster UGO: When I spoke to Wes Craven about that movie he said it was very difficult on his end. It was his first studio movie and there were like eight producers. Were you aware of any of that? KRISTY: I was aware of some of it. I didn’t know that that was his first studio picture. He already had a name for himself so I just assumed that he made studio movies. But we did have a lot of producers so I guess he might have had a problem with two many chefs. I know Wes was trying to make a film that wasn’t so horror. It was based on a book called Friend and our script was originally called Friend and Bruce Joel Rubin wrote the script and he went on to write Ghost. So I think Wes was trying to make sort of a Bride of Frankenstein-type film but then about three or four weeks into filming, Warner Bros changed the name of the movie to Deadly Friend and added dream sequences and blood and gore. I remember Wes being a little perplexed by that. At that time in his career he was trying to do something different. Other than that I really enjoyed working with Wes. He has a really fun, wicked sense of humor. It was a good experience. UGO: Since Skating with Celebrities have you been asked to compete? KRISTY: No, I haven’t. We were asked to do a benefit thing for this one skating school where we made a personal appearance. But I haven’t been invited to compete in skating. [laughs] UGO: How about judging competitions? KRISTY: No, I would consider it though. UGO: [laughs] They’re talking about doing a Dude Where’s My Car? sequel. If there was a part for your character would you be interested in doing it? KRISTY: Oh, I have no idea. I heard a couple years ago that they were going to do that and it was going to be called Seriously Dude, Where’s My Car? but that’s the last I heard. It would depend on if they wanted to bring Christie Boner back or not. [laughs] I was pretty old to even be playing that part to begin with so I’d have to see what it is. UGO: I know you produced the movie Bound By Lies a couple years ago. Do you have any interest in doing it again? KRISTY: Yeah, I would be interested in producing. Everybody tells me that I should. Every job I work on, they’ll be like, "You know, you should be a producer." I’ve always been into the acting thing. For Bound By Lies, I wasn’t really a hands-on producer. It was more of a title thing. UGO: Do you have projects you want to produce? KRISTY: Not really. Basically I just read scripts and decide if they are right for me. I read something and I either respond to it or I don’t. This year I want to do a Western. UGO: In the early ’90s you were touted as the next big thing and you were on magazine covers. Then certain films didn’t do as well as everyone thought they were going to do. Do you feel like all that pressure hurt or helped? KRISTY: It’s interesting because I did the junket for either The Phantom or The Program, I can’t remember. There was this one journalist who was trying to get my goat. He kept asking me "So how do you feel about the fact that Sandra Bullock is getting every job offer? How does that make you feel?" I said, "Well, I think it’s great and it’s awesome for Sandra Bullock, but she can’t do them all so I’m more than happy to take her leftovers." Things happen in spurts in people’s careers and sometimes it’s high and sometimes it’s gets down a little low. But you do the best you can. You can’t force yourself on people. UGO: What a stupid question that person asked you. KRISTY: I know, I think they were trying to upset me, but it really didn’t. It actually was kind of stupid and silly. It didn’t hurt my feelings in any way. UGO: A few years ago they did a Highlander movie where they took the TV Highlander and the movie Highlander characters and put them together in a movie. You think they’ll ever do anything like that for Buffy? KRISTY: Wow, that’d be interesting. I don’t know. That’s a Joss Whedon question. It’s his baby. UGO: Were video games ever something you were interested in? KRISTY: Here and there when I was a kid. I had the Atari and I had the Nintendo and the ColecoVision. If I play any game now it is SSX Tricky which is a snowboard game. UGO: What’s the best science fiction or action movie that you saw in the theaters? KRISTY: I saw Poseidon and King Kong so far this year. I thought King Kong was amazing. I thought the trampling of the Tyrannosaurus Rexes went on a little too long. But that was the only thing. |
