Laptops in class too distracting (seth green mention)

Every Monday and Wednesday from 3:00-4:15 I have a class. This is one of my hardest classes, where I need to pay the most attention. The class is in a small lecture hall and I sit a few rows from the very back row. I bet you’re thinking, "Okay, so where does the laptop drama come in?" Yeah yeah, I’m getting there.

Of the maybe 70 students in my class, 66 of us handwrite our notes. I know, it’s crazy to think about. I understand that it might be easier for people to type their notes but what annoys me is that I have never seen anyone using a laptop actually taking notes! I mean, that’s what they bring it to class for, right? Between the three people who bring laptops to class, I saw all of the following: one updating their MySpace profile, one responding to picture comments on MySpace, one looking at a site for new MySpace layouts, one searching for people on Facebook, and one updating their LiveJournal. You thought I was done already? No way, Jose! I also saw one clicking on every link on Seth Green’s IMDB page, one writing the paper and emailing it to our professor before the class period ended and my ultimate favorite, the guy who looked up a vocabulary word that nobody knew and looked it up on an online dictionary and raised his hand pretending to know what it was the whole time and like a laptop with internet access had nothing to do with it.
