Angel, or Angelus, just means "angel" its latin. Cordelia is also latin, i’d guess from the word "Corda"- Heart

I think the name Cordelia is also a reference to Shakespeare’s KING LEAR. We all know Joss loves Shakespeare. In King Lear, the character of Cordelia prides herself on speaking the truth without any selfish intent. Although, in King Lear, Cordelia may actually be driven by the selfish intent of getting back at her Father for his poor perception and the inequitable treatment of his daughters. I think the main similarity between Cordelia in King Lear, and Cordelia Chase is that they both act very righteous, whilst in fact being self serving. This is at least true for Cordelia Chase in the first few seasons of buffy.
