The 7th Annual Hollywood Film Festival’s "Hollywood Awards" ceremony, honoring independent filmmakers and established Hollywood professionals, was held last night before a standing-room-only audience of over 1,200 Hollywood Film Festival attendees at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Special honors went to Columbia Pictures Chairman Amy Pascal, film preservation leader Roger L. Mayer, actor Anthony Hopkins, actress Goldie Hawn, director Ron Howard, producer Sydney Pollack, screenwriter Ron Bass, actress Scarlett Johansson, actor Orlando Bloom, cinematographer John Toll, editor Michael Kahn, songwriter David Foster, animator Andrew Stanton, visual effects supervisor John Gaeta, costume designer Ann Roth, production designer William J. Creber, and casting director Deborah Aquila.

The Festival also announced the winners of the Hollywood Movie, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress of the Year Awards, which were chosen by the public voting online at the Yahoo ! Movies and Entertainment Tonight websites. The public’s favorites were Disney’s movie "Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl" directed by Gore Verbinski, actor Johnny Depp, actress Diane Lane, supporting actor Geoffrey Rush and supporting actress Alison Lohman.

This year’s Festival chairwoman, Paula Wagner said, "There is no more appropriate place than the Hollywood Film Festival to honor the illustrious talents of all these magnificent artists who have created some of the most memorable characters and truly unforgettable films."

The Hollywood Film Festival honored the feature films "MIFFO" and "MOONLIGHT" with the awards "Best Feature" and "Best European Feature," respectively. "MIFFO," directed by Daniel Lind Lagerlof, and "MOONLIGHT" from the Netherlands directed by Paula van der Oest.

The Hollywood Film Festival was founded in 1997 by Carlos de Abreu and Janice Pennington, "New York Times" best-selling authors and producers. Regarding the conclusion of the 7th annual Festival, Mr. de Abreu said, "We are delighted by the response we have received from Hollywood and the independent filmmaking community during the course of this past week. Our conferences were well-attended and our screenings were packed. We had over 25,000 attendees and last night’s gala awards ceremony was truly an extraordinary ’Hollywood’ moment."

In addition to the feature film awards, "Khachaturian," by Peter Rosen, was selected as the Hollywood Film Festival’s Best Documentary. "Khachaturian" is about the life of the composer working in the darkness of Stalin’s USSR. Khachaturian’s complex, modern 3rd Symphony brought derision and scorn from Party officials, condemning the once luminous musician to live out his days in obscurity and censure. The Festival also named "Dejavu," by Jesus Garcia, as Best Short Film.

Celebrities and Hollywood notables who attended the six-day Festival included the Honorable Consul of Italy Diego Brasioli, as well as Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore, Robert Benton, Neve Campbell, Cameron Crowe, Frank Darabont, Ellen DeGeneres, Laurence Fishburne, Andy Garcia, Randy Jackson, Fay Kanin, Diane Keaton, George Lucas, Bill Mechanic, Johnny Messner, Haley Joel Osment, Michelle Trachtenberg, Robert Towne, Thomas Walsh and director Peter Webber to name a few. The gala awards presentation Monday evening was hosted by Mary Hart and Bob Goen of "Entertainment Tonight," and attendees were treated to the music of renowned band leader Johnny Crawford and his twelve-piece orchestra.

The Festival included the Opening Night Premiere of "11 :14," directed by Greg Marcks and starring Hilary Swank, Rachael Leigh Cook, Patrick Swayze and Barbara Hershey, the Centerpiece Gala Premieres of Paramount Classics’ "The Singing Detective," by Keith Gordon, starring Robert Downey Jr., Robin Wright Penn and Mel Gibson, Lions Gate Films’ "Girl With a Pearl Earring," by Peter Webber, starring Scarlett Johansson, Colin Firth and Tom Wilkinson, the Gala World Premiere of "Khachaturian" by Peter Rosen, and the Closing Night Gala Premiere of Lions Gate Films’ "Shattered Glass," by Billy Ray, starring Hayden Christensen, Peter Sarsgaard and Chloe Sevigny. Other Festival events included the Hollywood Film Conference and the Hollywood Film Screenings at Arclight Cinemas, where the finalists of the Hollywood Discovery Awards were screened, in addition to last night’s Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Festival wraps tonight with a Special Event Screening Honoring Anthony Hopkins, the screening of Miramax Films’ "The Human Stain," directed by Robert Benton and starring Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Gary Sinise, and Ed Harris.

Festival Chair Paula Wagner is a producer and partner of the production company Cruise/Wagner Productions. Over the past ten years, they have produced a wide variety of films ranging from the MISSION : IMPOSSIBLE series to THE OTHERS to NARC to VANILLA SKY.

The sponsors of the Hollywood Film Festival include the American Cinema Editors, Arclight Cinemas, Art Directors Guild, Barco, Cadillac, Casting Society of America, Costume Designers Guild, Daily Variety, Entertainment Tonight, European Union, FilmMaker Magazine, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Hollywood Creative Directory, Hollywood Network, The Hollywood Reporter, International Cinematographers Guild, International Documentary Association, Kodak, Motion Picture Editors Guild, Panavision, PR Newswire, Raleigh Studios, Screenplay.com, Technicolor and YAHOO !
