My Television Is Trying To Kill Me (alyson hannigan mention)

Saturday 24 June 2006, by Webmaster

Have I mentioned how friggin’ great "Entourage" is? I’ll tell ya, I’ve watched it since the beginning, and it just keeps getting better & better. Last weeks episode centered on the opening weekend for the James Cameron version of “Aquaman”, and it’s clambering over the top of “Spider-Man” for best opening weekend. HBO went as far as to run a full page ad in “Variety” claiming the title, which is a great touch. If you’re one of those who haven’t yet caught an ep of this, make sure you switch on HBO this Sunday night to play a little catch up.

The buzz is really starting to build around “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”, one of NBC’s new Fall shows. It’s still around 2 months away from the premiere, but after speaking with someone who has just watched the first hour long, they are convinced that it will be the biggest show of the year. The comment that stood out the most in my book is that “It’s like the best pieces of ‘Sports Night’ mixed with the greatest moments of ‘West Wing’ all the way through”. Good praise to me, so I’m really looking forward to it.

One excellent show, and one not so good one are finally about to premiere on Australian screens with “My Name Is Earl” (the good one), and “How I Met Your Mother” (the not so good one). In case you haven’t heard a word on either, “Earl” centers around Jason Lee, as a man who takes his life cues from Carson Daly after winning on a lottery ticket, and decides as an act of Karma that he should make right all of the wrongs that he has carried out in his life. It also features Ethan Suplee as Earl’s best friend & Jaime Pressly as his ex-wife. Now as for the other new show..... this is one of those shows that I really can’t believe is as popular as it is in the US. The basic breakdown is this guy narrates the story of how he met his wife to his kids, and in doing so, shows us the “wacky” antics of his group of friends, and their own experiences. I really couldn’t get past the first half dozen episodes, I just found it to be.... Well, really shit. The jokes are horrible, the majority of the lead cast (excluding Alyson Hannigan & Neil Patrick Harris) bore me to tears.... I don’t know, check it out for yourselves, I just couldn’t get into it. Both of them kick off in a week or so on the 7 network.

Next in TV land comes yet another chapter in the ongoing “Futurama” resurrection saga, with Reuters saying that Comedy Central has just picked up a 13 episode order for the cult classic show, which should debut in 2008. That flies in the face of what we’ve all been hearing for the last year, which is that there were a set of straight to DVD feature lengths in the works. I loooooovvvvvvveeeeeee the show, and I’d love for this news to be 100%, but as the saying goes, I’ve been hurt in the past.... *sniff* No word on whether the DVD’s are still in the works.

And finally, FOX this week announced the premiere dates for their fall schedule, with a worthwhile mention that “Prison Break” will be returning to US screens on August 21st.
