NFL Total Access Hollywood League - Week 2 (david boreanaz mention)

Craig Ellenport

Wednesday 20 September 2006, by Webmaster

Note: Welcome to Year 3 of the NFL Total Access Hollywood League , a star-studded fantasy football league created by the NFL Network. Each Wednesday during the season, one of the league’s celebrity owners will appear on NFL Total Access to discuss the league and interview an NFL player. This week’s guest will be Paul Rudd, whose Tastes Like Chicken squad is off to a disappointing 0-2 start.

(Sept. 19, 2006) — While the NFL was able to make a smooth transition in leadership this month with the appointment of Roger Goodell to replace departing Paul Tagliabue as commissioner, it appears the NFL Total Access Hollywood League is not nearly as strong at the top. A recent question over the fantasy league’s rules has led to the burning question: Who actually runs this league?

The controversy began when first-year owner David Boreanaz, star of the FOX series Bones, tossed out the idea of allowing for a "flex" player — being able to start three wide receivers and one running back instead of two and two. The idea was quickly dismissed by Hollywood League commissioner Craig Ellenport (full disclosure: that’s me).

Well, after losing his opening-week game, Boreanaz lashed out at Commissioner Ellenport (me), saying it was "ridiculous" that he couldn’t start three wide receivers. The argument against it is that if some of the owners had known that might be an option, they would have drafted their team differently.

An irate Boreanaz then went over Ellenport’s head and placed a call to NFL Total Access host Rich Eisen, who then conferred with Ellenport and concluded that the question should be put to a vote.

Results of the vote will be known later this week, but the question remains: Is it possible to go over the head of the commissioner?

More importantly, why would Boreanaz be so anxious to start three wide receivers? He lost a shootout this week to Jeff Garlin’s Nipsey Russell squad, 119-117, and here’s the thing: If Boreanaz had the option of starting three receivers last week, he probably would have benched Vikings RB Chester Taylor in favor of Bills WR Lee Evans — which would have cost him 17 points! While Garlin is now 2-0 on the season, the loss drops Boreanaz to 0-2.

Moral of the story: Stick with a balanced lineup, and don’t question your commish!

In other Week 2 action:

The Abattoir joined Nipsey Russell as the only other undefeated team, as Larry Joe Campbell’s squad got 38 points from Donovan McNabb and 28 from the Bears defense in a 136-76 drubbing of Nick Bakay’s Love Handles.

Faulk U earned its first win as the team co-owned by Guy Torry and Kellita Smith got 46 points from Peyton Manning — but still needed 10 points from the Steelers defense Monday night to squeak out a 114-108 win over Paul Rudd’s Tastes Like Chicken.

After scoring a total of 44 points last week, Michelle Williams’ Bootylicious Browns got 31 from Carson Palmer in a 97-88 win over Rex Linn’s T-Rex.

Correction

Last week, we incorrectly noted that Nick Bakay had changed the name of his team from Nick Bakay’s Love Handles to simply "The Love Handles" — and then speculated on exactly who belonged to the love handles in question. Well, as Bakay pointed out this week, the name remains the same. The love handles do, indeed, belong to Nick.

We regret the error, and any speculation it may have led to.

Nipsey Russell 119, Dis ’n Dat 117
