Nathan Fillion - "Drive" Tv Series - 2 episodes remains after cancellation

Thursday 26 April 2007, by Webmaster

Fox planned a short first season with six episodes. But it’s already over after four.

"Drive" by Tim Minear ("Angel", "Firefly") and starring Nathan Fillion ("Buffy", "Firefly", "Serenity") premiered with two episodes back to back on a sunday and shifted the next day for its third episode to its usual timeslot (mondays at 8/7c). Episode four this monday was the last one. Fox pulled the plug. "House" reruns will replace "Drive" next week. "Drive" started with more than 6. million viewers, episode four was seen by 4.6 million viewers.

You can read "Drive"-script on TimMinear.net!This is kida interesting, because there were a lot of changes in the editing.

Cancelling the show after 4 episodes and around 10 days, after such an huge promotion campaign is a little strange. Couldn’t they at least air the two already produced episodes? Airing all six episodes and not picking it up for another season would be more dexterous. It wouldn’t seem so sudden.

With "Drive" cancelled, there is no new drama of the season on the Fox-schedule anymore. "Justive", "Vanished" and "The Wedding" were cancelled and "Standoff" starring Gina Torres returns with the remaining episodes in June. "Standoff" isn’t officially cancelled, but airing the remaining episodes in the off-season (post-May) is very close to being cancelled, because the decisions about another season are made in May.

Update: The two remaining episodes will air in summer. There is no airdate available yet.

  • I think this is pretty bad on Fox Networks part. What about the folks that really got into this show. We do want to know what happend. You should have ended this after all shows were aired. I do want to hear back on this.
  • If there is anything that the FOX network has proven this year, it is that they will axe a show unmercifully and save a buck any chance they can. Standoff has survived with little support froom the network. Drive was treated beyond comprehension and now the six-dregrees of FOX is that Gina Torres of FireFly fame with Nathan is facing the axe again. FOX just can’t figure out how to market anything but crap, plain and simple, and quite frankly, it shows the lack of experience in there marketing and promotions areas. It screams to thsi viewer that FOX has lost touch with the 30 somethings out here in the real world that hold the pocket books that really matters.

Oddly, we see indications that FOX wants to see what Standoff can do. The pairing of Bones re-runs with Standoff on Fridays this summer is one positive. Fans of both shows can appreciate them being on the same night. New viewers will be found this way too. FOX HAS NOT announced Standoff as cancelled. This indicates that they are reluctant to give up on this show.

Remember, FOX has brought back shows that critics were on the "cancelled wagon" preaching about long before they had the name of a source.

Standoff is well worth your time, especially if you are happy about not having to pick a phone up and vote about anything. It’s drama/romance for adults with minds of their own and who enjoy being entertained by a cast that is OH SO easy on the eyes. Besides Gina being in it and having connections to Nathan and other FOX crimes of neglect and murdering of shows, Standoff should be a stopping point and a literal standoff between the network itsself fans who are sick of of their lack of conscious.

Help us Standoff fans make that stand- watch Standoff!!! Friday nights starting June 08th.
