Watching the first hour of Drive with Nathan Fillion....(sort of)

I was lucky enough to attend a Browncoat only preview screening of the new Fox tv show Drive tonight. (Browncoats are fans of Firefly for those who may not already know). We weren’t told if any "special guests" would be there but I think all of us were hoping that one of the stars (namely Nathan Fillion, star of Firefly) just might be there.

The screening was held at the movie theaters at Universal Hollywood and we all met there with high hopes. Around 7:30pm they lead us into the building and into one of the theaters. Fox even treated us to free popcorn and drinks - not a bad deal!

My friends and I sat down near the front row (personally I picked that row as I knew if anyone were to "introduce" the clips they’d do it from up there of course). Everyone was chatting and laughing happily before the screening started when suddenly cheering came from the back of the room.

Nathan Fillion came sauntering down the aisle and walked between the seats to stand in the first row of empty seats, which so happened to be only two rows in front of my friends and I. So basically Nathan was no more than 10 feet from us. He got everyone’s attention and then told everyone to close their eyes. We all giggled but did as we were told (couldn’t help it, he told everyone to wallop their neighbor if they didn’t have their eyes closed). He then talked about how everyone had probably been running around all day, running to work, running home to get ready, running to the theater, etc (my friends and I tittered a bit as he was describing our day’s perfectly). He then said that we should all take a deep breath (which we did) and be still........ he then closed his eyes too. Everyone giggled, it was great.

He then said that we were about to see the first hour of the two hour premiere of his new show Drive. He was quick to point out that we were only seeing the first hour so he expected us all to watch the show when it premiered. He said that we were about to see something great and that he and everyone involved were very proud and excited about it. It wasn’t a finished cut, he said, so if we saw anything "off" in terms of effects, we should keep that in mind and not make fun. He then said that once we saw it we would be tempted to go on the internet (who us? Nah!) and though he encouraged us to go ahead and go on the internet, tell people we were lucky enough to go to the screening and we should even rub everyone’s noses in it, he didn’t want us tattling. Tell them we loved it, tell them it was cool, but DO NOT tell them about it, he said.

So I’m not. Sorry but when Nathan Fillion (our captain no less) tells you to do something, you do it.

At that point the screening started and all I can say is that it was.......wow. Just wow. I mean seriously, wow! It was exciting, it was funny, it was everything you’d expect from Tim Minear. The cast looks spectacular (more than a few familiar faces, especially to those familiar with Tim’s other shows (Angel, Firelfy, etc).

So that’s it folks. Another great night with a great show, great people and our very own great Nathan Fillion.
