Nathan Fillion - "Slither" Movie Premiere - Fan Report

Massively Nerdy SLiTHER Premiere Report

Okay. So I have to write this down, because otherwise I run the risk of forgetting parts of it, and that would just be sad. Warning: I used to be normal, I swear, but firefly and Nathan have turned me into a bit of a raving fangirl. So beware—nerdliness and squeeing ahead.

Thursday was officially the best day ever. My friend Katie and I live (more or less) in LA, and we decided to go to the SLiTHER premiere in Hollywood to stand with other fans, see Nathan, and squee from afar. We didn’t have actual tickets for the screening or anything that fancy, but we thought that it would be well worth going anyway, just to watch the arrivals from across the street and such. And, um. We were SO right.

We got there just as it was getting dark, and after some parking-related woes and general confusion we found the spot where all the fans were gathering to watch. There was a group of maybe 20 of us. I didn’t expect it to be a really big premiere, but I had thought there were going to be a few more fans there. Hmm. Also, there were a few “professional” autograph seekers sprinkled throughout the group, who were heckling the guests and being generally snotty and rude. Hmm. But there were of course happy, friendly fans there as well. So the guests began to arrive in limos and bus-type-things, and I could feel the level of excitement go up a notch. It’s all a big blur in my head now, so I’m sure I’m going to be forgetting tons of things. We’re all standing out there, freaking our butts off, keeping an eye on every limo that pulls up. I have to admit, Katie and I were there solely for Nathan—we had no huge, burning desire to see the movie, and because of that, we really had no idea who any of the other people involved with the film were. Also, I’m really squeamish when it comes to gore, and I honestly didn’t think I’d be able to sit through the movie, despite my insane NathanLove. Anyway, limos pulled up, assorted stars got out, waved at us from across the street, etc. Then i heard someone go “Oh! Oh! It’s Nathan!” and sure enough, there he was on the red carpet, as if he’d appeared out of nowhere. A bunch of the fans started yelling for him, and he sort of looked around for a second before he finally spotted the group of us across the street, behind the barricades that had been set up. He waved at us, and then continued going down the line of interviewers and press people. People continued to call his name, and a few people started shouting “come over!”. As friendly and wonderful as he is to his fans, tho, I sort of doubted he was going to show up, because it was getting close to showtime and there were lots of barricades and we weren’t all that close. And really, I didn’t think my luck was *that* good.

Yeah, so I was wrong. It was hard to keep sight of him what with all the other people milling about on the carpet, but all of a sudden I spot him crossing the street and walking towards us. Which is, of course, when my brain exploded. Coz really? The sight of Nathan Fillion walking towards you, grinning, in *that* suit? Too much for my little brain to process. I hadn’t brought anything with me for him to sign, as I honestly never thought it would happen, but just as he was walking over I remembered that I probably still had my Serenity ticket stub in my wallet from the first time I went to see it. Score one for me, I was right. In fact, I happened to have both mine AND Katie’s. Yay. He came up and stood practically right next to us, and mine was the second or third thing he signed. Call me a ridiculous fangirl for gushing, but goddamn is that man pretty. And tall. And pretty. And was like a foot away from me. In that suit. But, erm. Yeah. And I’m not going to mention how ridiculously soft his hands were, because that would make me even more of a silly, silly fangirl. So, moving on. :D

You could tell he was really rushed, and said as much, but he did manage to sign quite a few things before having to dash off again. He said some cute, very funny things while he was signing, but unfortunately I was too damn dazed and filled with glee to remember exactly. Katie ([info]orangepenguino) is working on a write-up of the night’s festivities as well, and as she’s brilliant and funny and a far better poster than I am, it’s possible that she’ll remember in more detail. Bur suffice to say, he was lovely, and I was bowled over by the simple fact that he came over at all.

So he ran back across the street, and Katie and I attempted to breathe like normal, non-crazy human beings. People were starting to go into the theater, and we figured it was just about time to head back to the car. That’s when I hear some woman talking to Katie, asking her if she’s really into the movie. Katie and I were both kind of confused, (I thought maybe she was a reporter), but Katie mumbled an answer of “erm...yeah...firefly...Nathan...yeah...” or something along those lines. And very quietly, the woman said ‘okay, do you want to see the movie? Come over here a second’. To which Katie and I eloquently replied, “!!!!!!!!!”. So she led us a few feet away and explained that she was from the advertising department, and that she didn’t want to make a scene, but that she had some extra tickets. She handed us a pair of tickets, and we followed her and her group of people into the theater. Katie and I wandered in and found seats in a awe-struck daze. James Gunn said a few words, and then the movie started, to much applause.

I just couldn’t get over the fact that I was sitting there, watching a movie along with Alan, Nathan, and Joss. I was having total flashbacks to the live episode commentary from the Flan. It was just too much fun, basically. While I probably would not have gone to have seen the movie *for* Nathan, I sure as hell wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to see it *with* Nathan.

Any fears I had about not being able to sit through the movie were erased within the first few minutes. Yes, it was gross. Yes, I covered my eyes for a bunch of it. And yet it was so damn hilarious and well-acted that I couldn’t help but love it. Man, so many quotes I wanna repeat right now. But I won’t. :)

So the movie credits roll, and there’s tons of clapping. People start filing out, and Katie and I go to see if we can catch a glimpse of Nathan up close, because, you know, GEEKS. And then in the main lobby I catch sight of his girlfriend/date/potential fiancé, like 2 feet in front of me. So Katie and I sort of walk toward her, and then all of a sudden there’s Nathan, a few feet away. We were standing behind them as they walked out of the theater, and he took off his suit jacket and gave it to her to wear, which was just too damn cute. So we kind of followed from a distance (*cough* stalked *cough*) and were standing maybe five feet away from him as he talked with a small group of people including his date and *Alan*. (Who was, by the way, wearing the same fantastic leather jacket that he wore to the flan. Hee.) Up until then I had refrained from taking pictures, mostly because my camera was busy being a useless broken piece of crap. But I decided to give it one last try, and lo and behold, it worked. Only one of them really came out, but I’ll post them shortly, regardless. I felt like a bit of a stalker, but I suppose it was worth it :)

They had to leave for the after party a few minutes later, and I snapped another picture or two of them getting into their SUV. Oh, and I almost backed right smack into Alan, apparently. Hee.

Katie and I decided to head back to the car, but stopped when we caught sight of Joss Whedon standing around talking to some lady. Katie and I debated going up to him, but finally bit the bullet and went for it. He signed our ticket stubs, chatted with us briefly, and together we jokingly made fun of Nathan. There was banter. It was witty. Hurrah.

So, that was about it. Katie and I finally walked off, giggling into the night. It was good times. Excellent times, even. Superlative.

I’ll post the pictures shortly.

ETA- Katie has posted her report as well, so go check it out: [info]orangepenguino It is in fact way better than mine :D
