’Into the Wild’ tops SAG nominations

’Yuma,’ ’Gangster,’ ’No Country’ also honored

Wilderness drama "Into the Wild" topped the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations with four, including best ensemble cast.

“Wild” nabbed a best actor nod for Emile Hirsch, supporting actor for Hal Holbrook and supporting actress for Catherine Keener. The nominations, selected by a panel of 2,100 SAG members, were announced early Thursday morning by Jean Tripplehorn and Terrence Howard at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.

SAG voters also opted for three other dramas — "3:10 to Yuma," "American Gangster” and "No Country for Old Men" - in the ensemble cast category along with musical comedy “Hairspray.”

In addition to its ensemble nom, “No Country” took supporting nods for Javier Bardem and Tommy Lee Jones while "Michael Clayton" received three noms for George Clooney in the best actor category and Tilda Swinton and Tom Wilkinson in the supporting categories.

The thesp union voters snubbed “Atonement,” which picked up a leading seven Golden Globe noms last week. “Sweeney Todd,” which nabbed four Globes noms, was also shut out.

On the TV front, "Ugly Betty," "The Sopranos" and "30 Rock" each recevied three nominations from the Screen Actors Guild.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, set for Jan. 27 at the Shrine in Los Angeles, won’t be affected by the Writers Guild of America strike. Earlier this month, the WGA granted SAG a waiver for the show, to be telecast on TBS and TNT.
