WAITRESS: A Tribute to Filmmaker Adrienne Shelly

Thurs. Dec. 13 at 7:30

Adrienne Shelly. 2007. 107 min. PG-13. US. Fox Searchlight Films.

Waitress is the sweet and sassy tale of a woman who dreams up pies that are inspired by whatever’s going on in her life - "Falling-in-Love Pie" or "I-Hate-My-Husband Pie," for example. Making "delicious upside-down cake of the Cinderella myth," the film enchants with its "luminous magical sensibility and endearing sense of humor" (Sundance Film Festival, 2007). Starring Keri Russell (of Felicity fame), Cheryl Hines, Nathan Fillion, Jeremy Sisto, and Adrienne Shelly.

Andy Ostroy, executive director of the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, joins us to talk about the work of his late wife, Adrienne Shelly. Before her untimely death last year, Shelly left her mark as writer, director, and actor in Sudden Manhattan, I’ll Take You There, and Waitress. She also appeared in over 20 other films, including The Unbelievable Truth, Trust, and Factotum. The foundation, established in the spirit of Shelly’s vision and passion, partners with academic and filmmaking institutions to assist women with scholarships, production grants, finishing funds, and other resources.

Tickets: $9 (members), $13 (nonmembers).
