Matt Damon was recently named the number one “sexiest” man alive by People magazine. Sometimes it seems like these little lists are nothing more than a popularity contest with everyone reliving high school all over again as the truly great people get over-looked in favor of the obvious choices.

Here are five devastatingly sexy guys that don’t get enough time on these lists:

1.) Nathan Fillion: Underused as a leading man, Fillion’s turn in Firefly caught the eye of more than a few. With his recent appearances in Desperate Housewives as well as the feature film Waitress, Fillion continues to age well, coming into his looks more and more. A commanding presence in any situation, Fillion plays sincere and gruff characters. But don’t be fooled, his rough and tumble exterior houses a melty heart of gold.

2.) John Krasinski: Krasinski himself is a playwright, and by all accounts, a down to earth, charming guy. However, it is Krasinski’s role as “Jim” in the hit television show The Office that has captured the heart of nearly every woman in America. Absolutely imbued with that inescapable “boy next door” quality, Jim’s charm and unconditional love for the character of Pam has proven that women don’t all want the bad boys, and that the good boys can be undeniably sexy.

3.) Matthew Gray Gubler: I know, “who’s that?” you’re asking yourself right about now. Amidst the endless CSI versions that overrun CBS, Criminal Minds, a little gem of a show is hiding Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (PT). Matthew Gray Gubler appears on the show as a young tortured genius, Dr. Reid. Gubler is one of the underused actors working in Hollywood today, as well as a talented artist. You may have seen him as an intern in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou or on YouTube where he stars in and produces his own mockumentaries. Gubler’s quirky good looks and intellectual exuberance mark him as sexy in his own right.

4.) Gael Garcia Bernal: This guy is absolutely astonishingly good looking, it takes you by surprise. Far too talented for someone who started as young as Bernal, he’s a versatile actor, whether it’s taking a turn as rabble rousing revolutionary Che Guevara in Motorcycle Diaries, or as a well-meaning immigrant in Babel or his countless other roles. Bernal is passionate, and seems to be a fast talker, able to get himself in or out of trouble just as quickly. Confident and sure of himself, Bernal exudes sexy in a big way.

5.) Adrien Brody: Another solid actor with an extensive and varied career behind him. One of the sexiest things about Brody is that he has seemingly accepted his body for what it is, lanky and long-limbed. Brody will never be a muscle bound hulk of a man, but he has a quiet and heartbreaking grace about him. Especially in the world of Hollywood, where everyone is trying to be something they’re not, it is refreshing that he has accepted himself. Nothing is sexier than real strength and vulnerability, and Brody offers both in abundance.
