Nathan Fillion to host the 2013 Writers Guild Awards

Tuesday 18 December 2012, by Webmaster

When it comes to smarts, charm, and humor (not to mention a great, saucy smirk), Nathan Fillion is the total package.

Appropriately, then, the actor — who plays a writer on ABC’s Castle – has been tapped to host the 2013 Writers Guild Awards in February.

The Writers Guild of America, West announced Fillion, also the star of the long beloved defunct sci-fi western TV cult hit Firefly, as the ceremony’s host on Monday. The awards show will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE.

Fillion joked about the honor with his signature panache for goofy, self-deprecatory wit.

“When I first accepted the honor of hosting the Writers Guild Awards, I was confused and actually thought I was receiving one. Since I play a writer on TV, I felt perhaps someone was under the impression I deserved an award and I wasn’t about to correct them,” he said in a statement. “However, now I’m in the perfect position to present myself with whichever award I choose. Who’s going to know? At the very least, I can network with the most talented writers in the business in preparation for my next round of unemployment. It’s a win/win.”

Added the awards show’s executive producer Cort Casady, “We think Nathan’s an extraordinary choice to host the 2013 Writers Guild Awards. Not only does he play a writer brilliantly on Castle, but also, in addition to acting, he sings, dances, is a popular voice talent, and has a great gift for comedy. And with over 1.5 million Twitter followers, Nathan brings a smart, enthusiastic audience to our celebration of writing.”

Fillion, a longtime muse to Firefly creator Joss Whedon, also stars in The Avengers director’s movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, being released next June, plus in the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, out in August.
