Where Neil Patrick Harris finds the time is a mystery, but the "How I Met Your Mother" star and Emmy host has taken on yet another job.

Harris, who also hosted the Tony Awards this year, sat in with the "American Idol" judges Tuesday during a round of auditions in Dallas, E! Online notes. He’s the eighth person to fill the seat vacated by Paula Abdul during the auditions for next season — and the first without any serious ties to the music business.

Which is not to say he knows nothing about singing: Harris has performed in "Rent" and "Sweeney Todd," among other stage work, and played the title character in Joss Whedon’s online sensation "Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog."

Harris joins a guest-judge roster that also includes Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Joe Jonas.
