November 22, 2004 - Let’s be clear: This is all completely unsubstantiated, so Evil Dead devotees shouldn’t freak out... The dTheatre website is reporting that Sean William Scott (Dude, Where’s My Car?, The Rundown) is in the running to play Ash, the role made famous by cult movie fav Bruce Campbell, in the recently announced remake of Evil Dead. In addition to the Dude, Where’s My Car? star, a couple of other names have begun spinning around the rumor mill... IESB reports that Nicholas Brendon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Xander, may play Ash. And Dark Horizons tosses out Justin Theroux (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Mulholland Drive) as another possibility. The film is being shopped to directors and a script is currently in development. Original helmer Sam Raimi will not be directing the remake, he’ll be producing along with Campbell. The first film launched the careers of Raimi & Tapert as producers and directors while also launching the acting career of its star, Bruce Campbell.
