Subject: Mercedes McNab at L.A. Comic-con yesterday (smallish
spoilers)
I asked her if she’s going to be a regular, with her name in the
opening credits, or if she’s being kept as a recurring character. She
confirmed that she’s in every episode from now on, but as far as she
knows they’re not changing her billing status. She didn’t think
they’d film new opening credits in the middle of a season (Ha! Little
she knows!), but said maybe they’d add her to the credits next
season. (So #1: She’s expecting another season, #2: She’s expecting
to be in it.)
Someone asked her who the guy in bed with Eve was, and she quickly
replied that it was Lindsey, Angel’s nemesis from the first couple
seasons. (So it really is Lindsey, not another character played by
CK. 95% sure before, but she seemed to confirm it.)
When asked about SMG coming over, she said it doesn’t look like
she’ll be able to do it, at least not this season, but they’re still
hoping to get Aly at some point. (Which is what we’ve been told. No
surprises.)
She said that JM is her favorite person to work with, since he’s
funny offstage, and such an intense actor that she acts better in
scenes with him because he gets everyone around him caught up in the
scene. It didn’t take much for Spike to persuade her to go have a
nooner because Harm had been slightly pining for him ever since they
split up, but she’d like to see Harmony in a relationship with
someone else who’d appreciate her more. She half-jokingly suggested
Lorne, because he’s the only one on the show who hasn’t "gotten any
tail," but thinks Harm and Angel would be a good pairing (natch).
On the whole, I wasn’t too impressed with her in a con setting. She
really didn’t seem to know what to think of fans, and seemed
uncomfortable around them. She wasn’t impolite, and when she
accidently was she quickly apologized, but she wasn’t nearly as
friendly and excited to meet fans as most other Jossverse actors I’ve
seen. She didn’t seem happy to be there, and her smile seemed forced.
And I had to pay her $20 just to sign my Sunnydale Yearbook...

I hate her anyway, wish she want on the show and i bet alot of people think that way too
-
Well, you’re wrong, nobody hates her but you! Like Spike, she would actually bring some life to the show, because unless you’ve forgetten, Buffy has always gotten better ratings than Angel and Sarah Michelle Gellar was partly because of that. Apart from Spike, Sarah’s possible appearance will be the only reason i will watch the show
-
both of you are sad. i watch Ats cos its a good show, this season has been the weakest since S1, A Guest appearance by SMG or Aly would help the show.
-
I watch `Angel` because it’s a good show, and I don’t think it needs either Buffy or Spike. It would be nice to see all the main Sunnydale characters at some point, just so that we know what’s happening with them, but `Angel` doesn’t need them.
-
your totally right, angel doesn’t need buffy or spike, and never did, all though it does add for some excitement! but as far as everyone going on about how angel sucks without buffy or spike and how angel should never be with cordy cause of buffy, i think is not truly a fan. as long as they leave my baby angel on the air i dont care who or what they put in the show as long as david b. is the main character!
-
I don’t think they need them but it makes the show very interesting.
-
Okay now YOURE sad...
I find this season stronger (yes... stronger) than S4. They’ve moved forward, they seem to have bloated the show with money (gooooooood) and it’s a great plot that they’re unfolding in our faces.
And you two before.... Yeah, you’re sad, too. You who hates Sarah, you’re prolly gay. And the one who watches just for Spike... sad. And prolly gay as well.
-
Who is the ideot saying that other people hate Sarah? Without Sarah there would be no buffy and be no angel. And seeing though Buffy was way more popular than Angel has alot to say about what people think about Sarah. Personaly I love Sarah and so does every other person I have spoken to.
-
Sarah rulez and Buffy was the mother show so ppl only watched it because of Buffy and Sarah MADE buffy wat it was (way beta than the film. It wud just be an interesting twist if Buffy showed up
-
i totally agree Ecspecially on how Buffy made Angel, and i think Sarahs awsome!
-
I think it’s great to have SMG on Angel.
I have been a Buffy fan for three years,
and i think it will be really cool!
-
Spike is better off with out Buffy any way, she treated him like shit when they were together. He should be with Fred, at least she would treat him better. AtS was great whether Buffy stars were in it or not!

You may hate her but most people don’t and if you do that’s your problem but you shouldn’t say bad things about her just cause you don’t like and if you think you have a right to then that means that we have a right to say bad things about you. SMG rocks
-
It’s real simple. The majority of fans love SMG, but those who don’t, hate her. Unfortunately for the vocal minority who dislike her, you ARE the minority.
Same thing goes for Spike. The more reviews you read that make comment on Spike’s presence on Angel, and the more you listen to fans out there, the more you’re going to realize that even if *you* don’t like Spike on the show, most people do. In fact, episodes with an emphasis on Spike have largely received the best overall response for S5.
In my humble opinion, Spike adds a "careless but cares" nature that has been both lacking and severely missed in the series since Doyle’s untimely demise in S1 (whether you hate the season or love it, Doyle was a great character).
Now not everyone likes SMG, and that extends beyond the Whedonverse fanbase, but most who watched Buffy and Angel DO like her, and would like to see her make an appearance or two. It’s been too long since Buffy showed her face in another S1 great, "I Will Remember You."

As long as the writing stays good I don’t care who does or doesn’t guest this season. The show’s better than its been for a long time. I really think it would be good to get Faith in for a while, her chemistry with Angel was good and could make up for no SMG this season. I love the show, its the best thing on TV by far. Looking forward to seeing Spike/Angel ’work’ through their issues. Having to wait until January for the next episode’s terrible!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t think the first person was talking about SMG. I think they were talking about Mercedes McNab. Read the article, it’s not even about SMG!

Uhu. \o/
you guys fighting..... so fun! \o_
Well, Angel IS a good show. The first two season were the best. The 3rd an 4th wasn’t excited or fun. Too much "apocalypse" on. The good of 4th were the guest appearences. Eliza and Aly. Both rock. What’s up with charisma evil?
I don’t want the thing that "saves" the season be a guess actor. Yeah, the cast is very good. James is hot. With alexis and david was good. Now, better? impossible. Alyson WILL make the diference. Jokes and everything. With SMG all "Uh... who will I choose? Spike or Angel?" will be boring. Please, not again. XP
It will be cool after all XDDD
so what’s the big deal?

I don’t know what you’re talking about when you say that Mercedes was unfriendly and that her smile was "forced". I was there, the one in the red sweater that asked her the most questions (a couple of them that you covered right here) and my friend and I also went over and spoke to her for at least 45 min to an hour while she was signing. The only reason you had to pay $20 for her to sign is because the con takes a percentage of the fee. Mercedes is sweet and very funny. I had met her at a car wash at least a month ago and she even remembered me from there.
Mercedes is just fabulous and I can’t wait to see her again.

I don’t really have a pos or neg opinion on this specific article, just on the debate regarding SMG. I am a fan from a long way back. I watched BTVS since the first eppy. (I watched her as Kendall on AMC.) So I fell in love w/BTVS and SMG became even more of a fave. So Angel is also something I watched after it became a spinoff. For fans to have an opinion on what they would/wouldn’t like to see happen w/stories is great. They know what they like to watch. But remember that Angel IS a spinoff of BTVS, so even though Angel has developed it’s own fanbase, it’s still majorly comprised of BTVS fans who stuck w/it, or now watch it due to BTVS ending.
