From Scotsman.com Paper’s free CD nets a high price (buffy mention)By William Lyons Friday 13 May 2005, by Webmaster A CD given away free with this newspaper last week has become a hot property. The six-song disc of new and previously unreleased material by Scots band Teenage Fanclub was selling for up to £8.75 on the internet auction site eBay. It is believed much of the interest has come from collectors in America, where the Glasgow band has a wide fan base, with the top price being paid for a CD complete with Spectrum magazine, which contained an interview with the band. Copies of the CD on its own attracted bids of up to £6.05. The free CD proved a big hit with readers generally, increasing the number of copies of Scotland on Sunday by more than 14% to over 88,000 - by far the biggest selling Scottish broadsheet last Sunday. The disc featured songs from Teenage Fanclub’s forthcoming album Man-Made plus material recorded at various stages over the past 14 years. Collectors were particularly interested in a cover version of Todd Rundgren’s ‘I Saw The Light’, which was recorded for the movie of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but did not feature on the final soundtrack. A copy of Scotland on Sunday from last June including a similar six-track CD from music sensations Franz Ferdinand was last night being auctioned on e-bay for offers above £9.99. |
