Greenroom Digital opts for Rackspace’s user-friendly Linux server solution

[Johannesburg, 11 March 2004] - Rackspace Managed Hosting Europe, a RedHat Advanced Hosting Partner which was the first managed hosting provider to offer RedHat Enterprise Linux to its customers, has slain the competition to become the chosen managed hosting provider for Greenroom Digital, the Web design agency that has developed Fox TV’s ’Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Web site.

Greenroom Digital, which provides full service, cutting-edge digital consultancy services to the entertainment industry, needed to upgrade its server capacity for a series of competitions and e-mail and viral marketing campaigns organised for Fox around the launch of the final series of ’Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ on DVD. Fox is also releasing ’The Slayer Collection’ and ’The Best of Buffy’ which includes the four most popular episodes from all seven series, as voted by fans on the Fox TV Web site, which was also developed by Greenroom Digital.

Darren Hayles, head of design at Greenroom Digital, comments: "Rackspace’s delivery of ’burstable bandwidth’ has been extremely useful to Greenroom Digital as we regularly experience major peaks in bandwidth for new sites and therefore find it hard to predict traffic numbers. Rackspace’s service is very flexible. We can set a new bandwidth limit without being penalised."

Greenroom Digital has a number of projects that they are currently working on for which Rackspace provides vital server support, including a microsite for the new British film ’TOOTH’, a Web site for ’Girl with a Pearl Earring’, an online advertising and PR campaign for ’League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’ and a guerrilla marketing campaign around ’Scary Movie 3’. With an e-mail newsletter centred on the film and TV industry which 15 000 people receive simultaneously, Greenroom Digital needed a reliable server solution with bandwidth capacity to cope with users accessing sites at the same time.

The Greenroom Digital design team also needed a hosting solution that was user-friendly. Greenroom Digital chose a Linux server set-up, which it felt would provide a stable, reliable platform for the company as it grows. Hosting with Rackspace also enables Greenroom Digital to run all the back-end code that is written for various sites, allowing more time to plan any migration and upgrade cycles.

Hayles explains: "Rackspace’s level of service to date has been unbeatable. The level of support they provide is superb, the phone is usually answered within two rings and problems are always solved straight away. I have been amazed by just how fast our Web sites are being served. Due to the type of sites that we build, and the fact that we need to be able to drive traffic to different sites on different dates, it is critical for our server reliability to be second to none."

Dominic Monkhouse, managing director, Rackspace Managed Hosting Europe, concludes: "Since its launch in the UK in 2001, Rackspace has become a leader in the field of managed hosting. We put this success down to our ethos of fanatical support and our employees’ commitment to develop and deliver outstanding service every day. Our customers really feel that they can trust us."
